I got a new Sweet water pro catalog yesterday and it had DP6 in it. I am thinking of calling to see if I can preorder the upgrade. I am also thinking of letting every one else try it first to see if it works. DP6.13 is going to work real well.

Just suppose...DP 6.0 turned out to be one of the cleanest software releases of all time.

Yeah, I know: "Dream On" and "Wouldn't it be Nice?" are two song titles that come to mind.

But some company has got to break the free fall of software quality expectations. Why not MOTU?

Well, it could happen.

Well indeed I totally agree.

And the wait and delay could be an indication that maybe their trying to get it right.

I hope so.

Or they're trying to patch up a disaster.

I hope not.

Just keep your fingers crossed. The new features look sweet.

I doubt there's any "disaster." From what I understand from talking to MOTU folks at NAMM, they've been doing some major work under the hood with the audio engine. As I said, oddly enough my copy of 5.13 didn't break when MOTU announced 6.0, so I'm still getting things done. It's hard to be patient, but it's better sometimes to just put it out of our minds and stop watching the calendar. :?

My copy still working as well and I'm still on 4.61 and another month or two doesn't worry me a bit as it's been 4 years or so since an upgrade for me so a month or 3 is a mere drop in the DP goodness ocean.

Let it be i think was once sung for just these moments.

Mark, that feeling you had two weeks ago regarding DP...

This week could be the One, methinks. :D

If only it eliminates the audio volume bursts! It may be too much to wish for, but a guy can dream.

Yeah, but the speculation is soooo much fun. 8)

And I am very optimistic about this upgrade.

I know I don't have enough "group cred" yet to complain, but I'll risk it anyway, because the way MOTU (and other companies) handle situations like this goes against all business standards and customer relations models I thought were universal (until now).

But, being well into middle age, and having worked for several major companies (including developing and publishing software), I ask this question.

What ever happened to the iron clad mantra that my employers demanded of me, and I demanded of my people?

Projects must be:

1. Done right.

2. Done on time.

3. Done within budget.

Yes, one could say, ""but...but...," but to no avail. "If you can't do it, we'll hire someone who can. :!:"

Those of you who score to video under deadline, do you ever get away with "you can give me more time so I can get it right, or you can live with what I give you under deadline." ?

I know apps are increasingly complex, but it would be inconceivable to me and my colleagues through the years to announce a deadline, let it slide, and not say *anything* to your customers.

I guess it's true, the older we get, the more we sound like our parents. (No, when I was a kid, I didn't walk five miles to school through snowstorms.)

What the heck, let it slide, don't give your customers the courtesy of "we're working hard on it, sorry we're late, but we want it to be right."

Sorry, James et al., but I think it had to be said.
