Hi all,
I'm wondering if the recent Mojave security update (18G4032) could be the culprit? My install of Mojave 10.14.6 was recently a fresh install of everything when I updated my 5,1 to the RX 580 and Samsung 970 EVo plus NVME. I had been doing mostly music production since then and not scoring work for a bit, so never bothered to try the movie menu until now, so don't know if it was working then or not, but suspect it was. I updated to this security update the other day since I was between projects so figured might as well. Security updates have never caused me issues before. It did however cause my Mac to forget what the startup disc was, so having no boot screen with the RX 580 it would just boot to recovery mode and go to sleep lol. I had to put my old 5870 GPU back in to boot so I could re select the 970 NVME as my boot drive. Then I put the RX580 back in and all seemed to be normal. Except that I can't access the movie menu in DP 10.11! Since others are experiencing this on different machines I think it's an issue with DP 10.11 possibly. But the guys at MOTU say they can't replicate this. They suggested to make a new user account...didn't fix it. Next they suggest complete uninstall of DP and reinstall. I suspect won't fix but will try it. Others here have said deleting preference files didn't work. The guys at MOTU think it's the security update...but others seem to be also experiencing this on older OS so.....

For HCMarkus, powering the RX580 is no problem. Use a dual mini 6pin to 8pin PCIE cable. Guys even power some of the Vega 56 cards this way. For more power hungry cards guys do the pixlas mod. No need with the 580.

Is this the one: Security Update 2020-002 10.14.6

I have it waiting to be installed... I think I'll wait!

Whatever the most recent update was is the one I had issues with that I suspect might be causing this problem. I did a complete deletion of DP and preferences and re-install. Didn't help. Now just waiting to gear back from MOTU. At least you can set the movie start time with a command. I can use Pro Tools to get movie audio in import to DP, but sucks to have to do that extra step. Hopefully they can fix it for us. I don't feel like completely rebuilding my boot drive and all software again so I'll live with it for now until there is hopefully a fix.

HCMarkus wrote:In case you haven't heard back, Matt at MOTU got back to me a week ago and advised that a Right Click on the floating Movie Window will reveal the Mini-Menu. It works.

Also, I noticed that, if the Movie Window is displayed in Consolidated Window, the Mini-Menu reveal button is present.
I spoke too soon. Yesterday and today, DP will not allow me to access the Movie Window Mini Menu.

I don't think I changed anything in my system...I though I held back on a suspect Security Update, as noted previously. Then again, I may have allowed the system to do it automatically. Arrgh!

Anyway, right clicking on the floating Movie Window now does nothing and clicking on the reveal arrow in sidebar Movie Window or in the SE Movie Track throws an error:
OS error: Unexpected error (-1)
Damn.

Updating my Techlink now.

I am having exactly the same problem, unable to access the context menu for the Movie, as well as the mini-menu. Has there been any response from MOTU recently about this?

No word yet on my recent TechLink. I am thankful, however, for this thread and those who have taken the time to respond within it, as they reminded me about alternate ways to attach or clear a movie (Sequence Editor) in a DP Project and that there is a Command for Movie Start Time.

That's great Markus, but one of the reasons I am about to purchase DP is to route video through my Blackmagic output. Without access to the contextual menu, it seems impossible, unless there is a command for this. Has anyone solved this problem?

Has anybody made progress on this problem? I've been talking with motu but they said they are not able to replicate the problem. I even tried going back to DP9 and it was happening there too now. Again, I have no idea what changed. I know this was working back in January.

I've tried updating to Catalina
I reinstalled DP a few times
and I've tried with a new account on my computer.

No success over here yet. I'm getting Unexpected Error (1852797029) when trying to access movie mini menu.

No fix yet.
Makes DP unusable (or at least very inconvenient) for movies.
I'm sure there will be a solution.

It's kind of driving me nuts.

I have workarounds for everything now.

To update to a new cut of something you are working on (since you can't change to a new movie if there is no movie mini-menu);

1) Close the project.

2) Put the old cut in the trash (temporarily).

3) Re-Open the project. DP will give you an error and ask you if you want to locate the old file?

4) Just click on the new movie cut. It will load. Do "Save as..." if you want to keep the old DP file for safety.

5) You can drag the old one out of the trash now if you want to save it as DP will use the new one now.

Why this bug appeared out of the blue suddenly about 6 months ago I still can't fathom.

I've tried every possible fix, to no avail.

It really gets in the way of working.

Hey Everyone,
Motu found a solution. I had installed EpoCam onto my computer so that I could use my iphone as a webcam and that was the culprit. So if you have EpoCam installed or any programs/software by Kinoni try uninstalling. If worked perfectly for me.

https://www.kinoni.com/support-and-instructions/
Step 4 in this link tells how to uninstall EpoCam. You have to use terminal.

If this does not work then really think of everything you've downloaded onto your computer in the past since the problem started. Especially those that deal with filming and video.

Hey thanks for that!

I have not installed EpoCam, but I was exploring the possilbitlies of remote-collaborating-webcasting about a year ago (pre-Covid!) and installed a bunch of webcasting stuff, CamTwist, other stuff like that. I'm going to try un-installing that stuff and see what happens.

If you don't mind, did you use ApZapper or something similar, or did you just delete them? Delete the preferences too? App-Support stuff if there was some?

I would really like to get this figured. It really has negatively affected my work-flow more than I had anticipated.

Thanks again!

So Kinoni(developer of EpoCam) gave specific instructions on website on how to uninstall EpoCam. I just had to copy and paste some code into terminal.
So I would look to the developers of the software for instructions on how to completely uninstall. If you can't find any instructions on how to uninstall from developers then try what you mentioned in your comment.

Yeah Thanks Much!

And guess what? I didn't have EpoCam on my Mac, but I DID have CamTwist.

I just uninstalled it (there is an uninstaller in the CamTwist Folder in Applications) and the Movie Mini-Menu now works like a charm!

So, at this point, at least two apps known to cause the issue: EpoCam and CamTwist.

Thanks for the follow up on this! Much appreciated.
