Guys, do you know yet if the new Music app will provide an option to save lib files in the old iTunes .itl format?
When I eventually upgrade the music-room machine, I don't want to have to also buy a new lappy for my home-stereo system; that one's limited to High Sierra. My M.O. is to transfer the .itl file from the music room to it every time I update the library on a portable USB spinner, and it's always worked of course.
Thank you!

And just like that, it started working again.
It had been a few weeks since I had tried, as I was moving, and then immediately on a week-long east coast family visit, so this is probably the first time I've uploaded to iTunes in a month or more.
So far, several jazz albums on obscure labels, have loaded with CD-text 100% intact, vs. the more usual 0% of the past few months.
Furthermore, stuff that I have uploaded over the past six months or so, is now able to find its album artwork, and also much more quickly than before the original problem with GraceNote/iTunes integration started.
My guess is that the GraceNote database was under heavy maintenance during the transition of ownership and that it is now stable again.

It would seem unlikely given the way Apple usually moves from one app to another, for example with images. But they usually provide some sort of function to convert to the new format within the new app. So Music will probably read in your old iTunes library, and keep it in a new format. Sort of like the way they did the change from Aperture to Photos.

LOL I've never once used Aperture or Photos. I'm the supreme tech luddite, Stoivo!
Sorry it took a while to get back to you mate; been trying every day and a window suddenly appeared today.
Yeah, I knew it read the old libs, but was hoping that it was possible to export in the old format. Seems the only option now will be to employ the patcher that came out recently and run iTunes even 'though we're not supposed to be able to in Catalina.
Just tryin' to be prepared. It's gonna be a long wait for the new machine 'though 'cause the financial situation has dropped a few tiers of late.
Thanks mate.

I'll be glad to see the back of iTunes, that is, if I ever see Catalina (sounds like a brand of canned spagetti) working with Audio. Unless the new Music app is a big improvement, and doesn't have the all too common issues with their updates, I might just port all my music files into Anytunes and leave the Apple stuff behind.
(BTW, that new Beta feature in PIA works! If you can bring yourself to use something like Chrome or Firefox for this board, you won't get that message from James any more.)

Thank you, Brother Stoivo.
I'll wait and see if they take the next logical step and allow tunnelling to be specified on a per-site basis and not just on an app one.
