Isn't the new SMPTE plugin suppose to be in this update?

I've optimistically got my fingers crossed. It would be so wonderful to see this working again. I think it's been broken longer than it ever worked! I'll be trying this out soon.

Update on VSTi MIDI out for the other lone soul who uses it in DP9.

So, the 9.02 update has some bugs in the area, but I got it working. Requires Maschine as a V-Racked instrument, definitely the VST version, and the 32 out version works the best.

DP reports an arbitrary amount of VSTi outs from Mashine 4 to 7 so far, (that 4 to 7 sets of 16 MIDI tracks all labled the same) but only one is the one that works...

It does the same thing with VSTs that can recieve MIDI.

Notes say: "Track layouts are bound to their sequence chunk and saved with the project." So it looks like there are no separate files saved for these presets. Makes sense because they would be specific to the sequence where they are created.
Probably easy to get what you want if you just clone new projects off of old ones in the Chunks window. That may be as close to "saved sets" as we can come, since a saved track set would require an identical layout, so cloning the chunk is essentially the only way we can get that. So, I'm not sure this is a workaround, or if it even works, since I haven't examined it yet, but I'm guessing they'd have given us saved sets if it were possible any other way.

Michael Canavan wrote:OK, yes definitely on my system VSTi MIDI routing is hosed in the 9.02 update.

I've been getting in to using NI Maschine for drums lately; the VSTi can change whole patterns on the fly with MIDI notes, which you can record directly from the hardware and out of the plug in. To do this Maschine must be in a V-Rack, that way DP reports the VSTi as a virtual input and output. 9.02 is wreaking havoc on this, reporting three instances of Maschine VSTi etc.

Going back to 9.01 it all works as expected.
I just tried this and it is working fine here.

Is it only maschine for you? Are there any other plugins causing issues?

VST, AU as it stands doesn't send MIDI out from plug ins, this is needed with Maschine to set up Scene firing. ElCapitan, latest everything, except DP as of now.. I'll talk to MOTU tech about it, phone calls are quicker. It works really well in 9.01 BTW, and because AU is crippled this way it's something Logic cannot do.

I think I'm in the minority on OSX in terms of using VSTi MIDI out with DP9, so I'm not surprised this bug got missed in testing.
I'm a little confused - do you have two issues? I know you wrote about the tripling of MIDI entries earlier.

That's the way the NAMM videos seemed to say; the external hardware plugin routing deal is in the coming features category but SMPTE I thought was in 9.02.

Well, Rats.

I do a lot of scoring to video in DP. I upgraded to 9.02, and now in the two different projects I've tried, the movies don't display. The movie pane just shows black. What's more, if I double-click on the video pane (which is supposed to pull the movie out into its own window), the entire program freezes up. It even froze up the Finder, so I can't open and close folders or start the Time Machine program while DP is spinning its color wheel in the background.

This is grim. I guess I'll force-quit, and see if Time Machine can give me version 9.01 back.

For testing another D.P. version, the Download section is very convenient with the older versions: http://www.motu.com/download/download_m ... oduct_id=1

Well - installed the 9.02 update and not too shabby so far but it's only been for a couple of hours so I haven't had a chance to explore all the new bits and bobs. Noticed the new View menu and that's cool. What's not cool is the manual hasn't been updated for any of the new stuff so don't go looking for explanations of how the new things are supposed to work.

No multiples/duplicates of MIDI entries like has been mentioned earlier.

There was a warning box that came up about conflicts between the stock keybindings and the custom set I have. It asked if I wanted to keep both, the custom, or the stock with options for save, stock, custom. The first time I clicked custom and the box went away. The next time I started DP the same box came up and I clicked custom and it went away again. Quit DP, repaired permissions, and restarted DP and no warning. Now whether the permissions repair had anything to do with or not I don't know.

Did have one crash on quit; no repeats on that.

I was under the impression that EC repairs permissions in background.
No, it does not. El Cap is supposed to Repair Permissions if you do a Safe Boot by holding the Shift key on startup but I never have the time to test that. Perhaps I will after dinner.

It is rarely necessary except when it is...
Just because I was curious…

I reinstalled DP, then did a Safe Boot this morning. It does not repair permissions. Don't remember where I read that it does but that person is wrong. This was easy to test as I ran the Terminal Command again and found the same permissions to be repaired as before.

So DiskWarrior 4,5 & Safe Boot do not repair permissions. Terminal using the new command line and TechTool Pro 8.03 does. I prefer Terminal as it runs in 45 seconds while TTP takes 3–4 minutes.
sudo /usr/libexec/repair_packages --repair --standard-pkgs --volume /

Permissions do not repair in the background either. Again, this is easy to test. I updated my wife's MB Air to El Cap when released but didn't run the Terminal Command till last night. I got the same many pages of repairs that I get after a new install, mostly CUPS drivers but still…

Do I really think it's necessary? Only for DP users—otherwise, not really. I don't think that Apple should have removed the API from Disk Utility but it is dead easy to copy and paste a line into Terminal — and wicked fast if you boot from an SSD.
