Re: Want 64 Bit Alphatrack Drivers for DP?
Thanks. I'll have to dig out the old bin and get the Tranzport out and try it again.

Re: Want 64 Bit Alphatrack Drivers for DP?
That's logically correct, but how much more? We don't know how difficult it will be to do both devices. Hypothetically if it will cost us "100 chickens" to fix the Alpha Track problems and 175 to fix both and we raise 150 (120 coming from AlphaTrack users and 30 from Tranzport users) then should the AlphaTrack users be left out in the cold?dewdman42 wrote:Yes absolutely, if your desire is to raise money I think you will raise more money if you include both devices...
This is the real question. It might be trivial. It might not. He might have time to tackle only one or the other. I don't know. I hope EVERYONE can be accommodated because Lord knows its a lot easier on everyone when that can happen. I think if we do raise money, we'll ask what device the contributor is most concerned with and if a hypothetical like I described results, at least one group can get the fix based on demand.I do not think it will add significantly to what Cameron has to do. You can always ask him about it anyway.
As I said... that would be nice. All I care about is that now that the initial goal of this topic has been expanded, we don't lose the "half a loaf" that seemed within our grasp (Alpha Track support) by pushing for a "whole loaf" (Alpha Track AND Tranzport support).... and personally I think its quite not right to exclude Tranzport users from the opportunity here to extend the lifetime for both of these devices.
Again... Life is always better when EVERYONE gets what they want.

Re: Want 64 Bit Alphatrack Drivers for DP?
well this particular thread was about alpha track but we've been discussing this problem about Tranzport on other threads here and there for years...its not a new issue. They are the same issue, with the same company, for the same reason. someone on this thread just managed to make contact with someone at frontier finally. There are some of us using one device and some using the other. If you really want to get down to it, take a poll and then you'll know, but its not double the effort to do both devices...yet potentially double the money if you are collecting any money.

If this is going to be a problem then I will just try to locate cameron myself. But I think that is going to create more kaos then you want.

I'm away from my main computer so dealing with all of this via Tapatalk on my iPhone. "Double the money" is hard to predict. Depends on the number of users and if one group or another is willing to chip in more. That might not be as big a deal. Alpha Track seems more deep and might require more effort. We'll have to see. I've been straightforward. I only have one dog in this fight, like Cody, who started this topic: the Alpha Track. You've pushed now to have this effort include Tranzport. The bar is now raised over what initial contact was made about. We can only see.dewdman42 wrote:well this particular thread was about alpha track but we've been discussing this problem about Tranzport on other threads here and there for years...its not a new issue. Re: Want 64 Bit Alphatrack Drivers for DP?
to me its simple.
We have a difficult situation with these two devices (only two devices) from a company that has gone out of business and the problem is not new to this thread or any other thread. This problem has existed well before this thread and to use that as justification for only addressing one of the devices is pretty self serving.
Someone on this forum has managed to track down one of the original engineers and that is great news. It has been made obvious that the person who tracked down this engineer wants to try to keep it exclusive for Alphatrack development out of some fear that if they mention both, then perhaps neither will get done.
This doesn't need to be a big deal. Its definitely not double the effort to take care of both devices. If the guy is going to track down old source code and setup his machines for compiling it, etc... it makes a lot more sense to do both of them at the same time while he's at it to leverage the efforts for both of the devices abandoned by Frontier Designs. For the most part I expect that he should be able to simply recompile the code for 64 bit and that's it. As long as he can obtain the original source code, this is not a substantial effort to do either one, once the code has been obtained and a build environment setup. That is really the hard part, setting up the environment.
If its going to be like you seem to be implying, "let the best man win", then it falls on Tranzport users to try to track down this Cameron fellow ourselves and take charge of our own destiny. Doesnt have to be that way though.

Re: Want 64 Bit Alphatrack Drivers for DP?
Nobody said that. For Pete's sake man, he's gonna ask the programmer about doing both. I'm the one that said I just hope the project doesn't expand in scope so neither happens and what looked like what would have been a slam dunk for AlphaTrack goes out the window.dewdman42 wrote:to me its simple.

It's being worked on. Soon as we get a crowd funding page posted, be sure to donate. I'm not sure how it will work. I think maybe once the programmer gives us an estimate, we will know what our "goal" needs to be.mikebeckmotu wrote:I really hope this becomes reality - I have two Alphatracks.
