Going back to the OP, I noticed you are running on an i5 Quad.

DP 8 is noticeably faster on my i7 than my wife's i5. Opening a simple 2 track project and watching it draw the initial wave forms takes only a few seconds rather than a couple minutes on the i5.

I was exploring the possibility of swapping my iMac for my wife's as hers has Thunderbolt and mine does not. I tried again on a friend's i5 and got the same results. Lesson learned and my next Mac will be a Pro or a later iMac with an i7 CPU.

Apparently, DP is taking advantage of the FPU performance of the i7.

I did this project originally in DP 7.24 on my buddy's 2011 i5, OS 10.6.8. I noticed the difference when I opened it on my i7 (10.8.1) for mastering. Later, I ran this in DP 8 on my wife's machine, identical to my friend's except OS 10.7.4. There was a much bigger difference between i5 and i7 than DP 7 and 8 on this simple 2 and 3 track project.

Wait... WHAT??? A few minutes, for a two-track project? I'm using a quad i5, and I would say it only takes a few seconds for a 30+ track project. I have no idea what's wrong with that i5.

i5s are under-rated, so far I've had nothing but glorious success with mine.

It is a 45 minute long project but it has only two tracks. After clicking ok to open it, I go and pour a cup of coffee when on an i5. On my i7, it takes a few seconds.

I mean by now, more than 1 year after the DP8 Windows anouncement, those DP8 Windows interested buyers might have jumped of the ship. It´s really not any good advertisement for MOTU tech, developement nor support.
I believe they are doing their best struggeling putting things together.

Donnow. I´m sad having to realize this. I love MOTU and DP. I don´t wanna complain, but I´m just being realistic.

Hope MOTU comes back soon and will be able to repair their client confidence by putting DP8 MAC and PC where it should be and be more interactive with us users. MOTU made one big misstake.. they annonced and promised us something before they could deliver.. I believe they got a bit carried away themselves.

I have a feeling something changed in the EVER CHANGING world of Windows operating systems. Something that made MOTU have to re-code the program, it must be quite a moving target, maybe one that MOTU never envisioned?
I mean, OSx is pretty damn stable compared to all the crazy versions of windows that come out every year, “completely new and revamped”...”we here at Windoze finally got it right this time, same as the last ten times we got windoze “right"”...lol...

I don't use Windows, but those that do tell me pretty much everything that ran in V7 runs in V8, and V7 has been around for a while.

Maybe MOTU got nervous, and announced WIndows too early, after all the noise about Apple abandoning pro apps, and OS X being dumped in favour of IOS.

Wasn't there a similar announcement about the same time from Samplitude on developing a Mac version? Did that ever happen?

Delaying until something is closer to ready is a long standing, time honored tradition in the world of high tech.

It would be far worse to release something that has major flaws. The silicon valley, where I live, is littered with the ruins of countless companies that made that error.

It doesn't have to be perfect when released. We all know that it won't be - nothing ever is. But it has to work and perform the tasks that users expect. It must perform to the level of DP 8 on the Mac. If a few minor features aren't quite ready, that's forgivable but the basics must work on as many machines as possible, Intel and AMD processors and, I would think, back to XT (maybe not).

Of course, we are talking about Windows. This means that, deep down inside, I couldn't care less what happens. I use it on the road with my work and that's all.

Years ago, people were saying that Windows was not very good for apps that relied heavily on timing and uninterrupted sequences that required absolute clock synchronization. I forget which version it was, but I think it was the one code-named Longhorn (was that Windows 7?) just completely blew that aspect of computing. Time-based apps simply couldn't run reliably on it. A lot of Windows users jumped ship and came to the Mac at that time.

Whatever version is currently out is a derivative of that platform, so chances are there are still problems with linear clock synchronization. I'm sure it's patchable, but one wonders what frustrations programmers must go through to get things working. Does the code work from version to version of Windows? Do they have to rewrite the program for Windows upgrades? I'm sure Microsoft is not terribly concerned with this problem. It doesn't affect their Office users, so it's a non-problem. I'm just speculating, but the stuff about Longhorn and audio/MIDI apps not working well together was presented by a number of Mac converts as absolute fact.
