DP will allow you to create a crossfade even if there is no audio present, and it does not alert you, so clicks at soundbite extremes may be exposed.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the issue here, but it is worthy of note when creating crossfades.

Cheers!!

Yes, not the issue because if I understand correctly: working, successful, right sounding crossfades are being screwed up while bouncing. I remember living with the fear that a bounce was not going to reflect what was heard before bouncing. It meant that every bounce would have to be rechecked start to finish to see if there are deviations from the original.

I don't mind being allowed to crossfade past a soundbite's boundaries but I wish an there was a way to see the edges of both (just to have a heads up) while creating the crossfade.
Would 'create fades with fixed length' solve it ? ( in the fades dialog box )
I think to have tried it successfully...
Or maybe use individual length / curves ?
If the soundbites are cut at 'non zero level', clicks should appear, not ?
Listening / playing = only 1 active soundbite is heard, not so when bouncing ?

I stopped bouncing too... just record in realtime to a new track

Gravity Jim wrote:This is baffling. Like everybody else, my work is a collage of MIDI, VIs and waveform audio, and I've never had this problem in any version of DP or with any of the myriad PCI or Firewire interfaces I've used..

I would have guessed an interface issue, too (only because you've been experiencing the problem across multiple Macs and versions of DP). Perhaps these settings you're trying now come under that heading.

RG, you say the fades don't click immediately, but later, they do. (Am I reading this right?) If so, do they continue to click forever once the problem begins, or does it eventually go away?

First when making the fade, they do not click at all.. then when I´ve done more work and fades and time passes etc all of a sudden the clicks appear on certain fades/soundbites.
When I redraw the fades, the click/pop goes away.. then the clicks can show up elsewhere.. once it starts it stays at the same fade/soundbite until I redraw it/them. The clicks are not very loud and literarely won´t burst out of your speakers, but they are hearable and anoying enough to mess up the clean audio. They sound like X fade pop/clicks.

Have changed the settings, and so far so good.. No pops yet.. same project as yesterday that made me come here yelling about it. ;)

Well, here's hoping that's the culprit. I love a good puzzle, though... I'll probably keep scratching my head.

I'm sure you've talked to MOTU about this. No joy there, I take it.

Thanks Jim.
I haven´t talked to MOTU about it.. it has been something that I´ve gotten used to live with so to speak.. but I never saw any post about this on MN. So that´s why I posted.
Fingers crossed it´s fixed now with these settings. :)

Hey Steven, Thanks for the heads up. Never would have suspected that DP wouldnt flag that! That needs addressed for sure.

The pre-fill buffer OFF was a good idea by whomever suggested it. We used to have troubles 10 years ago, and have since always built our clean prefs with it off.

Just thinking out loud here, but what about the Automation Preference settings under Automation Setup. Do those settings affect fades/crossfades? I've never really messed with those settings, so I really don't know.

Also, if you can get a small project to consistently click, I'd be happy to try it on my system and see if I get the same results. This has got to be driving you nuts. Gotta get this fixed!

It might be worth noting that when I export an OMF for a mastering session and import it into PT, if there is a crossfade it does not compute correctly at the destination. Single fades are fine, but cross fades result in anomalies. Fortunately I never truncate my audio when creating OMF files and the engineer can simply redo the crossfades, but this seemed like a good time to mention this.
