Shoosh, I've never heard the expression keyboard "focus" before, but if it means whether or not an app can "see" (and repsond to) the computer kybd., then I'm in agreement with you here! And, with others that have noted that the problem goes intermittently back in to 7, as well. I have also tried all of the work-arounds that were suggested - usually the click-on-the-desktop-then-click-back-in-a-DP-window thing would work...*usually*...
But the odd thing for me has been that sometimes, in order to do the above, I would have to click in the desktop area of my *2nd* monitor, then click back on my Tracks Overview window in my primary monitor, in order to get DP to "see" the kybd again. That always did work, but was a bit of a workflow buster. Hope MOTU will have a good look at this...

Hi Willie. I don't know if "focus" is the right terminology for this. It's just what popped into my head when I was typing, and I didn't stop to question it.

The current problem is not the same as previous ones, at least, so I believe. At least, I can say with certainty that the old workaround doesn't work now. So far, the ONLY workaround I've seen that actually works is to reboot the app, and that's a pain in the app.

buzz smith wrote:I don't recall having any "focus" issues with DP 7 at all.
Me either. In fact, I never had any kind of problem in DP7 that I can remember. None. No crashes, quits, dropped audio… nothing. That was the most enjoyable couple of years of working in DP that I can ever remember.
BobK wrote:I haven't spent a lot of time with DP 8 yet, but so far I haven't had any of the issues you mentioned, Shoosh. I just ran through the list, and all is well. Maybe my working sessions haven't been long enough for them to show up - just now I was futzin' around for about 50 minutes.
Bob, try leaving DP idle in the background for a half hour or so while you are surfing the forum. Then go see if you can click in a track and COMMAND_A to select all.

It's not rare, but it's pervasive enough that MOTU should get on it right away.

Everyone, please listen for a moment:
We all need to make sure that MOTU hears us about this keyboard thing. This can't dangle unfixed for even a month. This is bad news, and it will turn off a lot of folks, probably reversing the goodwill that we were seeing in GearSlutz. This, the jerky UI, and some other minor little things are going to give DP a really undeserved reputation usually reserved for DAWs by small companies that can't figure out the hard stuff.

So… call or write MOTU and tell them!

Does anyone with Mountain Lion have this keyboard problem? Because I still haven't experienced it and my DP8 test mac is ML 10.8.2. This could limit possibilities if it's related to OS version.

Ok. It must be something else. I have used DP8 about 3-4 hours without restart. I have used Safari/Mail together with DP. I'm using my laptop with bluetooth keyboard and magic trackpad. Maybe this bug won't show when using external keyboard..? I have to try work without ext keyboard and see what happens.

I did that - and still had none of the problems you describe (though I'm using the tools selector integrated into the control panel).

I opened a bunch of applications: Safari, Postbox (email client), Transcribe, Sibelius 7, iTunes (and had MIO Console running from the very start). I sent email, watched YouTube videos, surfed the forums, played songs in iTunes, opened Sibelius and Transcribe files.

Still working fine. For example, in the SE I can click on a track or a soundbite or just in empty space and cmd-A works as it should.

If this is the official DP8 bugs and issues thread, I'd like to add my ongoing choppy-video problem and the loss of Direct-Hardware playthrough - only Monitor Through Plugins is available. I haven't experienced the scrolling or keyboard "focus" issues, but because of my video problem I've not been able to use DP8 for any actual work.

If anyone has any solutions for my issues, I'd love to hear them. Details re my video problem is described here:http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 38#p434938

+1 to the whole click on a finder window, or on the finder in the dock, then back to DP.

This happens TONS, and I'm on DP 7.24 and OS 10.6.8

But it doesn't fix it in DP8. This is a slightly different problem, I think, which involves a large portion of the user interface.

I'm not seeing any of these focus problems yet, but will leave DP8 (64-bit) running in background while we go to dinner. I AM going crazy with the right arrow in text field erasing everything instead of moving to the end. URGH! I must click there. The commands window not opening with cursor in search field is new and bothersome but not so much so as Tab gets me there. I use a Kensington trackball with Steermouse driver, FWIW. I've been experimenting with Video playback in DP8. Again, so far, no problems with mp4s or h.264 QT.

It’s interesting Shoosh my friend.
When I went to DP 7, your system was smoking and mine had problems.
Now Mine is smoking, (so far, not done yet), and you are having problems.
Doesn’t bode well for me for DP 9 does it?.
By the way, I hope you saw my VE Pro post. I would really recommend to go to VE Pro 5 if you don;t have it already, (for the reasons stated in that post).

I'm trying to get by without VEPro. I tried it briefly long ago, along with Plogue Bidule, and decided that as long as I can keep my files small enough, I won't need them. Now, with DP8, I can be crazy again, but I'm trying to stay in 64 bit, not using 32 bit VI's. If I start needing 32 bit VI's, I can use VEPro, right?

As for the trouble, yeah, you'd better watch out for DP9. But I'm not worried about DP8. There may be some external factor that I can fix which is causing the trouble. After all, you don't have these troubles, meaning that a properly configured computer must be immune to them. I just need to figure out what's causing this.

Yes, you can run VE backwards to handle your 32 bit VIs.
TRUST ME, I have really checked this out. DP 8 without VE Pro is handicapped, end of story.
If you run 128 or even 64 buffers in DP 8, you will run out of juice. With VE Pro, put VE on 4x and all input can be at 64 while the previously recorded MIDI/VIs is running at 640. A true miracle. This is what we’ve always wanted man, there is NO reason not to work like this.
Last night I was running 18 gig of ram, tons of VIs, Dp was sitting at 10%, throughout was fast enough that I could record drums without quantizing along with LASS. (buffers at 64)
1) DP cannot handle ram as well as VE Pro
2) DP cannot 4x the efficiency f previously record VIs while through putting new MIDI at 64.
There’s nothing to think about bro. whaqt’s VE cost? 300 or something.
Come enjoy the miracle with me man... :D

You're being VERY persuasive, my friend. PURRsuasive. (hey, my cat's on the keyboard, getting into the act) I may have to do just that. Then I need to get about $5000 worth of extra VSL, and then we be rockin'!

We'll see. I'm buying some property tomorrow. Let me see if I have anything left!
