That's why Waves doesn't support DP7.
Not Waves version 8 or 9, but certainly version 7 is fully supported. Are there many advantages of Waves version 8 or 9 VS version 7? Unless I'm missing something big, there aren't any for the same set of given plugs...
Waves8 and DP7 works great together. Waves9 have been rewritten in cocoa, support 64bit and offer a proprietary copy protection on any USB device, much simpler than iLok.

There is nothing in Waves that I cannot do without any more. There are some plugs that I like, and use frequently, but nothing expendable anymore. I have alternatives with Slate Digital, Stillwell, and a host of others.
Waves had did DP dirty from versions 5-6 on up, making us wait, putting DP in the low priority to make compatible and in many cases stating they were not sure if it was even going to be compatible.
They have this stupid WUP that no one else does.
I have the Platinum series. I will use it until is does not work anymore. I am done with Waves. They are just shooting themselves in the foot. There is too much competition now for them to be the way they are. If they want to serve the Pro-tools God, let them and see where it gets them in the end.

Wish I could say the same. I still keep coming back to the ren compressors and eq, and sometimes reverb.

Just relax and wait for DP 8. I´m sure Waves v9 is gonna be compatible and will work.
Everything is pointing at that direction.´
I own Waves Mercury and SSL bundle.

Not completely.
The snap shot automation doesnt write data properly and therefore, one needs to copy the plug in, snap shot (at which point the 1st sanp shot will often but not always write incorrect data), and then paste the plug dat BACK in, re snap shot and it will now work.

I've got a lot of stuff that works great but I honestly didn't find an equal replacement yet for L316, simple C1 for some simple piano comp, Vocal Rider, Ren-DeEss, H_EQ and H_Comp, R-Vox, Aphex etc.
Waves stuff is not cheap and probably their policy isn't the best on planet earth, but lets not fall on the fable of
"The fox and the grapes"

Yes, I forgot the ren de-esser. I like it for tweaking guitar attacks better than any of the transient managers I've tried.

Why does everyone complain about WUP? The way I see it, it's a gift. A full year of free updates, built in to the contract. The most other companies will usually do is that if you purchase a program after a new version is announced, you get it for free. Cycling74? I bought Max5 a month before Max6 was announced... I was able to talk them into giving me a discount, but I still had to pay close to the original upgrade price.
Don't understand the Waves hate. I'm only now just getting into buying their plugins, but so far, I'm in heaven. C6 is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. L3 Multi sounds amazing, and it's so simple, I feel a little guilty for being able to get quick-n-dirty master recordings without much effort that actually sound really great. RComp is always hot, I'll never use DPs compressor again. And yesterday, I even finally aquainted myself with the glory of H-EQ, and am now starting to really love it.

With WUP, you pay, but you don't know what you're going to get for the money. The last WUP I bought got me nothing. With paid upgrades, you can see what the upgrade delivers and decide if its worth it. I prefer that.

Prime:
WUP used to be really bad, after much bad will regarding Waves over the years Waves changed WUP as well as lowered their pricing for products & marketing strategies to get users to come back.
As a newer, younger user you don't have all of the ingrained bad memories some of us had regarding everything WAVES.
I swore off and did not update or use WAVES from 2002 until last November.
I rightly or wrongly feel somewhat responsible for some of the changes concerning WAVES.
A few years ago a person came into the store I was working at that time, who wrote some of their better newer programs, as a writer/developer and not a marketing guy he didn't know about the widespread animosity that had developed regarding WAVES & WUP
On top of it at the time WAVES did not work in DP for users that spent lots of $$ updating WUP in good faith.
The situation was so bad the common term was I got WUPPED!
After a few years of this WAVES became 1 of the most reviled software companies in existence and they had a mass exodus of their products and a horrible reputation for being as predatory as any company out there.
When I explained all of these problems to the gentleman from WAVES(who was clearly shocked!) he had absolutely no clue of WAVES bad rep in the audio community.
He assured me the 1st thing he'd do when he got back to Israel was talk to his colleagues back in Tel Aviv to make sure the problems were addressed & true to his word, in a couple of months finally DP worked with WAVES again, if I remember correctly they actually added some time on users WUP accounts to make up for the lost time.
It been only recently that they softened WUP to what it is today.
The recent changes have been a clear attempt to reestablish their reputation amongst all of the users who swore off buying from them or abandoned the products and hated WAVES the last several years.
So yeah I use their products now but it's still a paid update as Bayswater mentioned & that requires some trust and faith from the user and that still makes many users still a bit leery with the history of bad blood in the marketplace people had with WAVES previously.

If you let your WUP expire, are you screwed? I really haven't researched this, but can you pay for an upgrade just like most programs? Or do you have to WUP or purchase the program all over again?

This will explain it better than I can:
http://www.wavesupport.net/content.aspx?id=4196
I'm actually a bit confused with the overlap terms they use with WUP currently so to me it's a bit vague what the actual cap for WUP fees for an account are.
You can continue to use Waves products after WUP expires but if you do an update(theoretical example : Leopard to Lion or DP6 to DP8) you might have to pay WUP for the software to auth and work in the new OS etc....if you did not update OS or DAW ever you'd never actually need to update WUP, at least that's how I understand it.
