I think you heard us. There was someone on this forum called "macguy" who started getting passive aggressive with me, the site owner, and since this is a non-profit, public service of mine, I draw the line at enduring that kind of thing. As I recall macguy had some sort of business consulting about Mac systems and your email address, freely visible by hovering the email link, implies the same. So it's a simple question: Did you belong to this board previously as "macguy?"

Nothing... you answered the question for me just by your responses this time around. Deleted and this time email and IP blocked. Again, you assume I have time in my day to play "cute" with people like you. You came into this forum, immediately started "harshing the mellow vibe" we have here and then when asked to tone it down, you got passive aggressive with me. I don't deal with that. My time is too valuable to me. Good day to you, sir!

Seriously, if he coulda just been chill the 2nd time around I would've looked the other way. I didn't know it at first, to be honest. Like the rest of you all, I was trying to have a life before he popped up on my radar and forced me to divert my precious attention from music and things I'd rather be doing. Not saying my time is more valuable than any of you guys. You know what I mean? Especially as we get older. Our present moments are most valuable. Time for all of us is finite, and wasting any of it on stuff like this is becoming intolerable to me as I start to see the big picture. Hence, I don't allow myself to become exasperated. I just boot them rather than start going round and round with them.

I'm actually so proud and happy to know the vast majority of you guys on here. We don't always see eye to eye on everything and I know politically we can disagree, hence I've really tried to stop those discussions before they happen. But there's a tone of mutual respect here, and I'd rather keep this board small and "club-like" (as it's sort of been disparaged on other boards) and keep that respectful vibe, than allow some people to come here and slowly erode that vibe.

Okay, now I've got a crazy new scheme: get a MacBook Pro. If I push my budget a bit, I might be able to find a gently used one w Quad core i7s, 8G of RAM.

Trying to figure how i7 processor performance compres to Xeons, in terms of DP use age. Also trying to figure if I will regret having only one internal drive (I'd like to keep the optical drive, thanks).

Thoughts? Or should I just suck it up and get a xeon based workstation?

Tough choice. The laptop is so much sexier while the desktop has so much raw power. Sometimes sexy costs you while power brings in money. Personally, I'd go for the door with the tiger in this case (desktop) but I'm weird that way... LOL!

For roughly $1,500 you'll get a much faster desktop, with more RAM at a lower cost.
The only reason to get a laptop is for portability. With such a budget you're looking at used, and the laptops are ridiculously overpriced in the used market. A side note, the i7 chip stacks up pretty well against the the Xeon, but you can't load 8 or 12 of them into a laptop, plus RAM is cheap for desktops.

Whatever you buy Geekbench is your friend.
