for anyone with *LOADZA* time to kill, there's a 20 *PAGE* discussion over on Apple about how 10.6.7 has messed with fonts (and - sometimes - the pdf's that are created with them)

Sounds like there will probably be a 10.6.8 soon. Ehh?

That may or may not require updates with Acrobat Reader and/or any other Adobe apps on your system. I just did an across-the-board upgrade of all my Adobe stuff (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), but even before that, didn't notice any problem ... except with Premiere Pro and AfterEffects, which I installed as part of CS5, I swear I actually managed to open, and suddenly stopped working after the upgrade to 10.6.7. Of course, these are 64-bit programs and never should have even been able to install on my machine to begin with (they no longer show up as part of my CS5 installer), but the fact is, I did install them and managed to open them at least once to make sure they worked. I also ran everything through OnyX and CleanMyMac, which may or may not have also helped. So far, I haven't encountered any bugginess (knock on wood) ...

Actually, I just discovered why Premiere Pro and AfterEffects don't work on my machine: my MacBook's logic board recently blew up, and, out of desperation, I purchased a cheap replacement on eBay without doing some hardcore investigation. I assumed, since it was a black MacBook 2 GHz machine, it was the same computer as the one that blew up, and all I'd have to do is yank out my hard drive, put it in the replacement machine, and all would be well. Not so. Turns out, a MacBook Core 2 Duo, which was what my original laptop was, is a 64-bit machine. I had absolutely no idea!!! The item I purchased, installed my old hard drive in and have been using for the last couple of weeks is a first-generation MacBook Core Duo ... which, of course, is a 32-bit machine. Now, I've actually loaded up and successfully run a couple of projects inside of DP on this machine, just to test it out, and didn't have any real problems, but since my old machine was kind of slow on the uptake, I can only imagine the horrors that await me when I try mixing a high-end project on here ...

The good news, though, is that none of that had anything to do with 10.6.7.

Today Apple released an update to SL 10.6.7 to fix font issues. Has anyone tried it yet?

Yeah... the update appears as Snow Leopard Font Update in Software Update-- so I suspect it's designed to address those issues.

That one just came out today; 10.6.7 should show up as "10.6.7 Update". Is it possible your Software Updater ran on a schedule and just downloaded the update in the background?

Sibelius users be careful with the font update. I had to reinstall all the Sibelius specific fonts after this update. Otherwise all working nicely as others have pointed out!

Uhhhh... I think you missed the point. I believe that you are going to have to reinstall your Sibelius fonts after running the update. What if there is no 10.6.8?

If you wait on anything, it would be for word from Sibelius Tech Support.

Did Apple put this font update inside the 10.6.7 update currently available or is it a separate update? I tried the Software Update on my Mac Mini and all it came up with is one update for 10.6.7 - no separate font update.

For those using ProTools 10.6.7 has been certified for use.

No problems here with the font update and Sibelius 6.2 (I've worked on a few charts and made pdfs without any issues).

Sibelius gives it the OK:

It wouldn't be the first time Apple did a minor bug fix inside the OS without releasing a new version. If you download and run 10.6.7 now, it should be included. The easiest way to check is to run 10.6.7 update, reboot and run Software Update again. If you still need the Font Updater, you should get a message; if not, it will tell you your software is up to date.
