Reaper is a toy DAW for amateurs with this kind of mentality. There, I
said it, and I'm not taking it back.
Like having a different GUI is going to make their songs any better.

Soooo...., why would MOTU would even bother with the 'themes' since it won't technically make your songs any better??David Polich wrote:Reaper is a toy DAW for amateurs with this kind of mentality. There, I

I also guess Kenny Gioia is an amatuer ehhhh....., who has pubilicly stated that he uses Reaper for most of his tracking sessions... and has also put together a pretty nice set of tutorials for the program over at http://www.groove3.com/str/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm not condoning the notion of ripping a GUI from any app.... although I can't help but see some irony here with the 'mo-tools' theme.... that being said... I just want to stick up for Reaper (maybe not this particular user), but to simply bash Reaper as a whole isn't right IMO. It's an AMAZING app, that has many features and functions that no other DAW has. Also... it's not 'free'.. a non-commercial lisence is $60... so yeah.. it's cheap.. but not free. I bought it... I've already used it here and there. No... it's no where near having the maturity of DP... but DP is on v7, and I can only assume MOTU had a somewhat strong financial backing to get started. Reaper is basically made by some guy in his basement that puts out updates at least every other month based on the votes of the feature request section of the forum... what other DAW does this??
That's all... I just wanted to stick up for the whole of the Reaper community... it's a great app, with a great forum, that doesn't deserve to be bashed like this... just as DP doesn't deserve to be bashed based on the actions of a single user...

All the Reaper amateurs will suddenly become REAL PRODUCERS by stealing our MOTU themes... why do you think their first target was the "Producer Theme"???

If their toy app is so good, why don't make THEOR OWN THEMES???

There's 5 pages of custom made themes by Reaper users. Why would MOTU even make a theme called 'producer' in the first place??

OF COURSE I'm being sarcastic, thus the green face emoticons!
I just don't understand, if they have their own themes, why they want to lift ours.
I mean, I can understand they really have this necessity to stop making reaper look SO UGLY and amateurish, but can't they simply do better reaper themes?
They really think their little toy will look more professional by stealing from DP?!?!?!?!?!?
It will look like a DP cartoon!

Re: Reaper user ripping off DP's Producer theme?
The complaints here are a little odd since some of the new DP themes copy other programs themes.
Also a little sad that there are many people here that get very upset about the treatment DP gets in other forums, yet there is complete bashing of other programs, and personal insults to their users here.

Re: Reaper user ripping off DP's Producer theme?
Gotcha.... I think he wanted to rip the theme because it looks so good! I looked at the thread in question in the Reaper forum and everyone was drooling over the way DP looks.... not just the themes... but in general... one guy even said "I wonder how long we'll have to wait until Reaper looks this good". I agree.... Reaper doesn't 'look' that great,.. no matter how you 'theme' it,.... but it aint no toy. There is some major flexibility in that program. I don't think I've ever seen any app (DAW or otherwise) that will let you 'roll your own' in such a way. I LOVE DP's contextual menus... but man... if I had the power to change what items were in those menus I'de love 'em 100x more...FMiguelez wrote:benmrx wrote:The internet is so bad at displaying scarcasm... FWIW, I think this is a pretty nice Reaper theme:

I actually downloaded this one and customized it a bit to my taste.

If you are referring to the "MOTools theme", I always thought of that one as a humor attempt by MOTU's boys.bongo_x wrote:The complaints here are a little odd since some of the new DP themes copy other programs themes.
I haven't looked at PT for a long time, so I have no idea what it looks like now.
Obviously we have no need to make DP like anything else... DP IS DP, and it wasn't done to suddenly "make it look better for free". Personally, the MOTools theme is the one I like the least.

Re: Reaper user ripping off DP's Producer theme?
Maybe the Reaper user will name his theme "mo-ducer"... I actually like the "mo-tools" theme the MOST!! Not because it has anything to do with PT, but because the contrast between all the elements makes everything easier to read.. and there's no overwhelming bright or loud colors to distract me.FMiguelez wrote:If you are referring to the "MOTools theme", I always thought of that one as a humor attempt by MOTU's boys.bongo_x wrote:The complaints here are a little odd since some of the new DP themes copy other programs themes.

Reaper user ripping off DP's Producer theme?
I'm not bashing Reaper here. But my position is that if the Reaper guy wants to copy a DP theme he should have to do it the old fashioned way and do it from scratch in Photoshop by looking at the theme.
I made a conscious decision that I wasn't going to use this board to HELP him. As it is he's already posted that he obtained a copy of DP somehow and is digging into the Producer bundle and using the graphics to copy DP's producer theme for Reaper. Worse than that he's put the theme bundle online for those who don't own DP to access. Whether it's the entire app or just part, I'm pretty sure that putting parts of commercial software online for anyone to download is illegal. Hence I deleted him.
As far as Reaper being $60 for non-commercial use, that's certainly true. However they let you download a fully functioning app and then paying for it is on the HONOR SYSTEM. Henceforth, it is my contention that a good deal of their user base has likely not paid for the app.
