How much bandwidth does it take to process and send 4 channels of audio?
<snip>
USB3 will be nice, but we'll see a whole new round of interfaces for that. (save your money, pros!)
He may have meant that he'd have preferred a feature-packed USB3 interface as the next MOTU interface, rather than saying that the MicroBook ought to be USB3.

Like I mentioned, USB3 is likely to be on the next MPs and MBPs.
Yes, USB2 is more or less equivalent to FW400, but there's nothing wrong with having more overhead than you need. The IO on this box won't require USB3 kind of bandwidth, but it'd be a nice symbolic gesture on MOTU's part to signal a commitment, and a jump on getting the drivers sussed out.
And I was hoping that MOTU would be the first to introduce a USB3 audio interface, but it appears Aardvark has beat them to it.
MOTU's interfaces are cross-platform, and the Windows crowd could use it before we can. But then, they're likely to endure the drivers hell that accompanies new technologies, too.

I like the way they have given the option on the MicroBook to send outputs from the host to a mix bus instead of only to a dedicated output.
Wonder if that will become general with another release? Microbook must have it's own installer as there is nothing on the MOTU site to download yet.
Interesting product. It is available in the UK now.
Very strange pricing. They have taken the MRSP ($260) and changed the dollar sign to pounds (£260). All other MOTU devices now sell at a discount even on the proper exchange rate. e.g. Ultralite (MRSP $600) retails for £385.
Someone said earlier that the killer app for this will be CueMix. Particularly the EQ and compressor as otherwise the MicroBook doesn't appear to offer anything not found on competing products already well established in the market (i.e. E-MU 0202 & 0404, Focusrite Saffire 6, even the M-Audio fast Track Pro @ 1/2 the price).
If buyers don't realise the benefits of cuemix it looks expensive atm.

I could use some help understanding this benefit. I assumed Cuemix would be most helpful if you're tracking several musicians at once and wanted to give them a good monitor mix. I don't see us doing a full band recording with this interface and you have all the plugins you need already in DP. Am I missing a huge piece here?
Thanks,
Ian

My bad. I'm a PC and Windows user so I don't have any experience with DP.
Of course using Ableton or similar what you say is also true but I was thinking about the entry level users at whom I suspect this unit is aimed.
There is a big market atm for basic audio interfaces being used, at least initially, as a more versatile and convenient soundcard/convertor. Cuemix with parametric EQ and a compressor is what the MicroBook offers that competing products don't have.
Maybe I'm wrong. The more people who buy MOTU the better so I'm tying to be hopefull and optimistic.

Could you please tell me or remind me (if it just turns out I've forgotten) what the heck atm means?
I've scratched off the list Automated Teller Machine, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Adobe Type Manager, and a couple dozen other --more traditional -- possible meanings.
Thanks,
Shooshie

Lots of people are wetting themselves about themes. I'll start messing with it next week. I've been updating the videos on my website for the last week or so and don't really want to sit at the computer much. Most of my posts are from my iPhone.

Oh the ability to change skins or "themes" is REALLY cool, I must admit the CARBON FIBER preset makes DP look awesome!
Is there an actual iPhone and/or iPad application that MOTU is planning on releasing or is this just referring to the OSC implementation in 7.2?

Yes there is 100% without a doubt an iPhone/iPad application the MOTU will be releasing. Brad from Sweetwater mentioned it and I was able to confirm independently with a source at MOTU. It is called "DP Control" and is intended to be used with DP 7.2, so if I were a betting man, I'd say it'll probably be up on the app store any day now. It's has to get approved by Apple.
Maybe Apple's dragging their heels until they can get their own Logic remote iPhone app out the door? Hehehe...
