Speculation....
Does anyone who have / had this problem, use Migration Assistance ?
or
Did you format the startup disk ? or just installed over the old installation..

I didn't use migration assistant, but the the startup disc I'm using now is a Carbon Copy Clone of my original start up disc. Do you think this is part of the problem?

Same problem, same solution (finding and deleting invisible DP7 authorize file). Using a Macbook and MAC OSX 10.62. Curiously, I tried to install DP7 on a XEON MacPro (10.62) and DP7 worked fine on first launch. But on my Macbook, I was unable to confirm the key binding prompt dialog box on first launch, had to force quit DP7 and was never able to create a new file on second and next launches. Deleting the invisible fine solved the "an error occured while writing to the disk...This file was created in a later version of DP and cannot be opened in this version... "
Thanks for this great forum !

Did you replace the actual hard drive? Either way just use cocktail or search for invisible files by going into the finder and typing "auth" and then hitting the "+" and in the attributes go to the "file visibility" preference and then go and click the tab next to it and the dropdown will have visible or invisible or both either click both or invisible and the Auth-DigitalPerformer 7 or whatever version your using will show up... trash it and then put the CD in and launch DP and re authorize... that's it!

haha. I found out what caused this issue for me.
It's because I installed the 7.01 -> 7.1 update, but as per usual, the updater *does not delete version 7.01* ...
So the link in my dock, and the automatic loading of the program via LaunchBar, was opening up version 7.01 still! So I had 7.1 installed, but after that, it would not let me use 7.01 since it kept saying projects were made by a newer DP.
But once I actually changed out the link in my dock to be the 7.1 version, and forced LaunchBar to actually open version 7.1, then it worked fine. LOL!
I'm an idiot. So is my computer.
PS -- I hate iPhoto.
