All I can say is "Wow"!

It is hugely deeper than Trilogy and sounds so good.
Another home run for Spectrasonics.

How cool that they are offering generous upgrade policies.

Hey Waves! ------- Check it out!
All is well

When I think that it costs me $6.95 for this upgrade (shipping costs) it's amazing. But the fact of the matter is that it's still amazing at the retail price!

Love this company. Can't believe I got Omnisphere and Trilian for nothing. Oh, and I went to order Trilian on the website Monday night and was told I qualified for the $99 upgrade. Even though I was pretty sure I qualified for a free upgrade I ordered (so I would receive it ASAP), and figured I would clear it up in the morning. They credited my cc within minutes of me contacting them the next day.

It is! In fact, when it came up in my cart for free, I stopped and emailed tech support telling them they made a mistake. They said nope, all Mac users get the free upgrade if they already owned Trilogy.

jweisbin wrote:Got it yesterday. Installed on Snow Leopard - major problems with the installer. If your "Steam" library (from "Omnisphere") was not installed on your boot disk, then you have to select the folder just above it each time you run one of the 5 install disks. Also, it didn't install the plugins. Checked the logs, it was trying to write something to the /tmp directory but couldn't. I finally used "Pacifist" to grab the plugins and copy them manually.

On the plus side, authorization was easy, and no crashes so far.
So far no one else mentioned this little wrinkle with installing Trillian.

So I talked to Spectrasonics tech support yesterday about this very thing.

Ideally, there should be just one STEAM folder located on your boot disk.
That's because there will be an update to Omnisphere coming that allows
Omnisphere to read Trillian patches.

However, most of us put our sample data on another drive (not the one we record to). So yes, you have to follow the instructions exactly for installing to a different drive. All my VI's are on a PC, and it's actually easier to install Trillian to an external drive on the PC. Not that that does Mac users any good.

That said, I installed Trillian and immediately went for the electric basses which were the weak point in Trilogy. I'm ecstatic - the electrics are all great and extremely useful. Spectrasonics has a winner here (again).

Huh? There's no need to put the STEAM folder on your boot disk.

The concept is simple: the Spectrasonics plug-ins always install on the boot drive. All your STEAM-based instruments' data MUST be in the same STEAM folder (which can be on any drive). So if you've already installed Omnisphere, then Trillian's library has to go in the same STEAM folder.

jweisbin seemed to be griping about having to navigate to the STEAM folder for each DVD installation, but that's clearly explained in the installation instructions, and I don't see how it's a problem. Maybe there are other multi-disc libraries where the installers automatically detect where the previous disc was installed (?).

Well after reading all the posts, it doesn't look like I got such a rock bottom price as I thought.
So if you never owned Trilogy is there still a way to get a deal?
It's too late for me but maybe for others.

There doesn't appear to be. I think the reason they're treating Trilogy owners well is that they had deal with several hassles, starting with lack of compatibility with DP 5.13. Trilogy wouldn't work on Intel Macs till they developed a 'wrapper' application which was an inconvenience. Trilogy users had to wait a long time while Spectrasonics developed an in-house engine for Trilian.

Spectrasonics makes great instruments and provides great support, and their products have lasting value. So they're worth paying the 'going rate' for ($299 for Trilian).

For some products, there's a large difference between list and street prices, but this isn't the case with Spectrasonics instruments.

Street price is really more like $279.97, since that is standard pricing at Sweetwater and others:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Trilian

I'll be paying at least $360 to buy it from a local music store in Canada.
