I was wondering the same thing. Why not announce it here first, or pay for an ad (it would get all kinds of clicks) to help James pay for this site. A site that has saved MOTU tons of money in tech calls that were NOT made, and has led many to purchase DP and other MOTU products.
Give back a little MOTU. Don't be so snobby.
No disrespect to Magic Dave who I think does a great job.
Maybe there are reasons we know not of.
You guys are reading too much into it. This sort of thing is a mistake. Sweetwater get the new add, and the printed version isn't going to be out for a while, yet the online version has it, too early.... this has happened before, it's not the way MOTU planned to announce it I'm sure, unless it's a viral marketing scam, which I doubt.
I bet it disappears soon.
No, it's happened before.

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying. It's common for advertising departments of magazines to get ads early, and for them to inadvertently leak a new version of a piece of software by accident. Logic, and Cubase have both been exposed by mistake early this way as well. No doubt Sweatwater are maybe better treated than motunation, but it's not I think the intention of MOTU for an advance ad to announce DP7 before they do.

Actually, the exact same thing happened with DP 6 -- Sweetwater actually ran a full page spread in one of their catalogs for it about six months or so before it came out or was available in any way, even from MOTU directly.
Soooooo ... we all paid at least $200 for a major upgrade in which exactly two updates over the space of a year or so were made available -- two updates, I might add, that didn't resolve nearly all of the bugs in the new software?!? I'm sorry, guys, but that's terrible, and a slap in the face to loyal MOTU customers who hung on with workarounds and bit the bullet in hopes that 6.03 or 6.1 would iron out the issues. Now, we'll have to pay another $200 for yet another new version that may be just as buggy, or even buggier, and hope that they actually resolve those bugs, rather than crank out a couple of minor updates, get bored and dump out DP 8 a year later?

There's no indication that the advance ad means an update to DP6 won't happen. Just that a new version is immanent.

It may be jumping the gun a little, but if DP 7 actually exists, and I'm pretty sure it does, I can't imagine that we'll be seeing any further support for 6 in terms of updates. And everybody might want to remember how well 6 was supported in terms of both updates and tech support before considering the leap to 7. I mean, I hope I'm completely wrong here and that MOTU delivers at least one more comprehensive update for 6 before abandoning it for the new kid, but I have a feeling 6 got abandoned a while ago. No one would be happier if that weren't the case than me, I've been dying to see 6 get whipped into the kind of shape that DP 5 was with 5.13. I certainly can't afford rolling another $200 craps to see if they got it together with the next one.

I think no upgrade price has been announced at this point, so might not be $195.

Sorry, I keep rounding up on the price! $195, I mean. It would be very awesome if MOTU at least cut registered 6 owners a serious break on the upgrade price when it does happen, might take the sting of "one year of 6/2 updates/partial resolution" out a little.
All bitching aside, built-in Q and maybe dynamics on each track?!? Hoo, boy. I'd have been happy with the Q. I realize DP was semi-patterning itself after ProTools in that regard, but, having cut my teeth on Vision, built-in Q was always something I desperately hoped they'd wind up implementing. I'll wager both that and the dynamics are being ported over from their hardware effects, so it may even be vintage-style Q.

Perhaps, in the spirit of Snow Leopard, we'll see DP7 as a $30 upgrade.
One can hope.

I don't remember MOTU having a history of that? I think it's best with any company to look at the past and in the case of 5.1.3 wasn't it nearly released about the time that 6 was announced? It seems that's the way my mind remembers it anyway?
It's the same with every DAW I've used, the old version finally gets nice and stable and they entice you with a bunch of new features.
Logic used to have EQ on the tracks and it was lame when they went back to plug ins. Hopefully DPs EQ ties in with Mackie and Euphonix mixers well, and you can get a hardware like feel out of it.
Really, MOTU have the best policy upgrade price wise, I truly hope they don't change it. Logic is random, and Ableton feels like a subscription service, it's yearly almost. Plus older versions are much more expensive to upgrade etc. What's nice about DPs method is you can skip a version if you want to and not pay close to the price of buying DP outright again. DP is realistically going to cost most people only $399 to get into with a competitive upgrade, and Live upgrades for instance ends up costing a user who skips a version almost as much as buying Live new again.

I've just payed 35700 yen (about 350 to 360$ US) last month and upgraded to DP6 via official local re-distributor in my country.
I can not take another 360$ upgrade fee...
I hope they have some sort of a grace period (upgrade to DP7 for free) and wish I were included.

IF it's true, the inline EQ and Dynamics would be a welcome addition!

Indeed as long as the dynamics plugin is NOT the motu compressor.
Lets hope there is an tape emulation plugin as well.
Mmmmm
Maybe Nicky's absence means that he has joined motu and is implementing his idea's from the inside

Funny enough, I posted this info two hours earlier but my post was deleted...
Anyway, I think that for mixing, inline EQ and Dynamics are huge news. I was beta-testing Propellerheard Record since June and it's a complete different experience to be able to mix without messing with plugins windows. Masterworks EQ is probably one of the best EQ plugins on the market these days and I'm curious what algorithm they'll use for the Dynamics. I suppose it's the Dynamics from CueMix but since my MOTU interfaces are mkII, I was not able to try those yet.

The next big trade show is AES, abt. 1 month away, in NYC. My guess is that the marketing/print publication schedule got out of sync a bit and that the official rollout will be at AES. Probably just a scheduling mixup. Just a guess... These things get harder and harder in today's world of instant world wide digital media.
Now that the cat (or unicorn) is out of the bag early, however, maybe MOTU will announce it sooner...
