+trillions
But one thing L8 and now 9 have in spades that DP hasn't got AT ALL is the guitar modeling plugins and stomp boxes, this is an area I feel lets DP down BIG time, but I (hope) they maybe addressing that.

But James, Logic scored higher than DP in audio in the 7 DAW shootout

so Logic must be better?

The pressure on MOTU must be immense. Even the owner of the industry giant Pro Tools is hurting. Look at this:

Also, Apple released the new Final Cut Studio today as well.

No, it is Intel-only. No question about it - it will not work on a PPC Mac.
That aside - I was ready to plonk down the bucks and get Logic 9 but I guess I'll wait until I can afford a new Intel Mac.
Maybe there are people who are unimpressed with Logic 9 - sorry, you'll have to count me as WAY impressed.
Apple has taken the best of everyone's DAW and put it into Logic, period.

I'm getting Logic 9.
There, I said it.
I've had Logic since version 5, so it's not a big deal. It's not a case of bigamy. It's only software. I'm neither pro-Logic or anti-DP or vice versa. I'm just a person who needs to get their work done and I'll do whatever it takes to make that happen. I've got clients who are part of that equation, so it's not like I'm working in a vacuum.
As for 64-bit, that will probably arrive in an update after Snow Leopard is released. Logic 8 has a lot of internal 64-bit features already even though Tiger/Leopard still thrive on a 32-bit kernel. So, the full 64-bit issue with Logic will likely be more minor of an update than a whole lot of software out there at the moment. So, I'm quite prepared and satisfied to stay in 32-bit mode for now.
When DP gets updated, I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

I'm a Logic user, and am fairly excited- but the fact is, catching up with other DAW's features wasn't the hook I was looking for. I wanted 64 bit, and I think I'll get it, same as Cubase users (likely soon) and everybody else (inevitably) when Snow Leopard shows. But I didn't really find time stretching to be what I was pining for... anyway, I'll let you all know in a few weeks.

How do you know that David? The guy who posted on OSXaudio stating that L9 is UB works for Apple, and he said it does work on PPC. So I guess we'll see.

I already own L8 (didn't use it at all once I installed it and explored it a bit - it just didn't "click" for me) so I'll most likely stay on the upgrade wagon and give it another weekend to see if we bond.
L9 has a lot of stuff in it and is going to hurt sales of a lot of plug makers. I would not be surprised that NI's blowout of Komplete was a preemptive move to score a bunch of sales that they otherwise wont get because L9 has so many bundled instruments and guitar amp goodies.
The new guitar amp stuff isn't going to help IK multimedia's sales any either.
This is Apple choosing to punish Avid for abandoning the platform at a key time - but there's going to be a lot of collateral damage to the market.

Like Frodo, it is not a big thing for me - I learned the attitude from the stock market - you learn never to fall in love with the stocks you buy - you make your decisions on performance. I had decided to buy Logic yesterday, a composer buddy (formerly a dp guy like us) made the switch a few months back and has been on me ever since. I have been with Performer since 1990. I am an old fart so I am loath to learn a new interface but I am so tired of certain issues on my rig and I want to try something new to see if it is more efficient and stable. I am concerned about the work environment and accessing patch lists - that has to be a no brainer - and I am concerned about the audio editing - and reading thru the literature it is all like "great for live performance" and "great guitar modeling" and NOTHING about ease of use for film socring, which is mainly my thing. But I will have them running side by side in a few days and I will share my thoughts. Thanks everyone for the input.
Yes, I'm getting L9, but I don't expect it to do be the end-all. If it is, then that's another thread for another time. I'm still a DP user. But I'm a DP 5.13 user!!!

I didn't get in on the NI deal, but you may be onto something: there may be a little more to these fire sales and special deals this summer than the genera state of the economy.

Yesssssssssss! Me no have the hardware Fender limited edition blues custom hand-wired combo amp (yet), so plugins still have clout in these parts.

Some companies talk about what's probable. Other companies prove what's possible. The difference for me is when paying clients put their needs into the equation. L9 has only be officially known for less than a day and already the numbers of clients who've "hit me up" for compatibility questions is well into the double digits. "I'm getting L9, are you?" That's part of what I have to deal with.
If I thought I could hold out longer, I would-- but I can't. I need to pay the electric bill next month!!

Frodo,
Thanks. I saw that too, however, to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, here's the verbatim
post from OSXAudio from a user named "mfritze" who works at Apple:
I can't predict the future, but PowerPC is clearly on it's way out (for the last 3 years). The next version of Mac OS X (SnowLeopard) can no longer be installed on PowerPCs and many applications are no longer available for PowerPCs for a while now.

I know you have to worry about your job and everything, but I don't want to fork over $200 for this if it won't install or work on my G5 tower.
Then don't. It is clearly not mentioned as a supported configuration at the Apple website. The question was: does Logic Pro 9 run on a G5? And the answer to that question is: yes.
In an earlier post he includes a screensnap of the L9 info pane which shows it as a "Universal" type application.

You know... people should try it it they want, but this is a MOTU oriented board and I'm a DP supporter and I'm uncomfortable with turning a thread into a place for people to post their glowing pro-Logic testimonials. If you like it go use it... be happy... but out of respect, hold any Logic lovefests on the Apple boards.
I have a good feeling that MOTU is going to pull off something pretty cool soon. Every time they've been considered down they've come back with something that has blown us away. Granted DP6 has been rough, but I think we'll see good things soon. Personally, I STILL can't work in Logic... so much of it is just so much more difficult for me to grasp than DP's straightforward UI.

I agree with James on this.
Logic audio editing is just unbearable for me and Motu may just have something up there sleeve
