According the web site I found this on, they didn't start weekly charts until 1955, so that was the #1 song for the year.

Regards,

Bill
The link James gave us led me to "Rock Around the Clock" Bill Haley & the Comets for '55. Oops, I just realized yours is probably for a different mm/dd.
"I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" Elvis, 7/25/56 for me.

Cool link, thanks, James.

Pap
Thanks, Pappy, but I was born in 1953 (you young whippersnapper )

Let me just clarify that I am not a playa hater. That means I don't hate rap because its rap and it represents something that I don't musically relate to. I love a lot of the old public enemy, cypress hill, and other from that era. The times just got away from me and I am out of touch with the new breed of rappers. The one thing I will say is that todays rap is less about awareness and more self centered....Which I don't relate to.

Same here Josh. I was fan of Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five, and loved The Sugarhill Gang's Rappers' Delight. Even Mel B's Hitler Rap was well made, in MHO.

It seems to me that around about the mid '90s it became more gimmicky and violent/disrespectful towards women. Shouting seemed to replace that deep, calm, almost spiritually authoritative and inviting tone rap had enjoyed until then. Suddenly it was all about how aggressively one could shout and the (false) image one could portray of one's self, IMHO. It lost me then. No fault of our own, methinks; just a change in direction that was bound to see a whole lotta class go out the window along with any moral centre it could have boasted. IMHO, it's shameful what it has become (generally speaking), and an embarrassment of sorts. Guess we're "traditional" or "old rap" fans then, eh?
