Dave Bourke wrote:I agree that Sylenth 1 sounds like the ultimate Virus-type VA from listening to the sound examples on the developer's website. So much so that I'm buying it as soon as the Mac AU is released.

However, I don't agree that Zebra 2 doesn't sound "anywhere near" Sylenth 1. I bought it recently and to my ears it sounds almost as good for the Sylenth 1 type of VA sound. But for every other type of synth sound Zebra beats Sylenth 1 into a cocked hat. You won't be getting too many interesting evolving pads out of Sylenth 1, I'll bet.

As for Absynth, well, can you use a sample as an oscillator in Sylenth 1? Nope. Can it do granular? Nope. There are tons of things Absynth can do that Sylenth can't. And if you can find a free bank called "Absynth As A VA" (I think that's what it's called), you can hear Absynth encroaching on Sylenth 1 territory.

Point is, there IS no best synth. There is only the best synth FOR THE JOB. And that's my tuppence worth. :)

Kind regards.
+1 . Nicely stated. I agree with your observations. I do know some "headline electronica acts" like Juno reactor that swear on absynth in every phase of production. The cpu load of Sylenth seems impressive, but zebra has the "street credibility" going for a few years now.

Hmm... thank you Josh. I didn't think of going to Rob's site 'cause I wasn't confident I'd found the right synth. Thank you for that man.

FWIW, I can't find this new synth there.

This is the only Synth1 I can find:

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/214.html

Windows-only VSTi, I'm afraid.

Kind regards.

Josh, I couldn't find the synth plug anywhere, but Dave Bourke has.
Seems my gut feeling was correct; it's PC only at this stage.

Well done Davo.

Neither, in fact.
We're now discussing this one:
soundmaster wrote:I would like to give a heads up on the "Synth1", it is free and absolutely great stuff. Designed to emulate the Nord LeadII, which it does a great job of doing but actually goes beyond it in many ways. :)
Blame the 420, Josh! LOL

Ha!

Lousy situation really; I sure could have used some when my best friend/'housemate died 4 years ago (anniversary in 5 days). Funny how things work out. Or not. LOL
