Now that I've tested out some older files, it appears there is a little 'inconsistency' not only in Proverb, but in the plug-ins inserts in general - but only in some older files.
In some cases, older files will not allow ANY plug-ins to be placed in an insert (mixer window). There is also an issue with windows updating the track name in the insert pop-up if it's changed in the tracks window.
Add to that an odd behavior where I can get no response from Proverb, including not being able to load an impulse respone, but can get a "slight" reverb effect out of it (albeit uncontrollable) if the INPUT is selected.
Sometimes a plug-in pop up will disappear before you see it and nothing will be active as a plug-in.
Why this happens on older files is a mystery. I've loaded chunks from older files into new projects and it doesn't help.
Strangest of all, if I convert the sample rate, it changes the pitch as well. This used to happen many moons ago, but was 'fixed' in DP 4 and 5. Now it's back and if I have a 44.1 rate and want to work in 48k, converting the soundbites means everything is about a full step higher in pitch. Conversely, going in the other direction drops the pitch of soundbites. So if you stat in one sample rate, you have to stay there for the entire project. I'm guess that samples that start at 44.1 and are imported will similarly be affected. <sigh>
Not good.

Bummer, Mike. Have you tried trashing any prefs?

Thank you. Sounds like it'll be fine for someone who doesn't own a pro con 'verb.
I wonder whether or not a default use of an IR produces better results than something like LAConvolver and other free offerings.

Still good news though; thank you Magilla.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I just played with this a little today and it has a nice clean, transparent sound IMO. I agree with Shooshie that it's going to take some refinement on the part of the user to make it shine, but it's already much cleaner than the WaveArts Masterverb.
It has been 'till now; you're the first to go OT, Magilla!MIDI Life Crisis wrote:I am avoiding my o/t comment here and hope we can keep at least THIS thread about Proverb...

It's looking quite good at this stage then, eh Billy?billf wrote:Okay Monkey Man, I had a chance to try ProVerb a bit. The verdict so far is it sounds great. I compared it to the Waves IR, which isn't Altiverb, but is still a great sounding convo-verb. Proverb holds its own. It won't replace the Waves IR for me (or if I dump Waves and go with Audioease, Altiverb), but it will do the job. I think you will be very pleased.

That's it then; I'm trashing mine now in case I forget when DP eventually gets to the land down under.
Thank you Gary. Good news. Yay!

It is Nicky. I don't think it will replace Waves IR for me, but I will certainly use it. I don't know the answer to your second question, nor do I know yet how or if all the existing IR files that are out there can be used yet as this is only Day 3 of having DP6, so there is still learning to be done.

Learn away, mate.
By the time I get it there'll be nothing left to learn... I mean, by the time I learn it there'll be nothing left to get, or something like that.
Much appreciated, as always.

I wonder if MOTU will provide a users section for IRS?
HEY JAMES...
I think it's time for a "Users' IR" post it at the top of the forum.
You could go further and have it be for any users pre sets..by catogory..but this IR aspect seems needed...

Well this is just plain old weird. I have an older project file that the first cue consists of a single stereo aiff - piano solo. If I try to insert an effect, I select the plug-in from the mixer window and get a blank plug-in pop up. I can select a plug-in from the pop-up, but all plug-ins are non-functional, including the original one that I added in DP 5 (might even have been 4.7x as this is a few years old.) Additionally, Proverb would not allow me to load a preset.
Other chunks in the same project play fine with plugs. Adding a new track with the same soundbite plays fine with the plugs. Replacing the soundbite in the track does not play fine (same plug-in issues).
There is nothing else in the track. Automation and such are correctly set. There is clearly something in that track (and a few others I've tried in older files) that DP 6 just HATES!
I did trash the Audio Unit Info Cache file but that was not the issue. Very strange, but I wonder if others with this problem might try creating a new track with the errant soundbites and see if that helps. I thought it was just a Proverb issue, but again, it is across the board - only in certain tracks. BTW, I did check the event list to be sure there was nothing else in there I was missing in graphic. It was clean.
As mentioned above, if I activate the Input of the track, I get a slight reverb but have no idea where it is being generated from. It is not a phasing issue where I am hearing a feedback loop or anything like that. It is a nice, clean reverb. It sounds exactly like the default Proverb verb.

Mike, I'm seeing a pattern here.
Oops, sorry... I was wearing my MonkeyLabs™ Kaleidospecs™.
Seriously though, might I suggest you trash the entire DP prefs folder, or at least move it to the desktop and reload that project?
I've a strong feeling you may end up having to rebuild your preferences, but you'll be far better off, even in unforseen ways, were you to do this.

Don't forget that extra pref that hangs out in the prefs folder itself! It doesn't sort alphabetically.
See my thread here:

I was having similar problems and this fixed it.

Well, I've recommenced downloading my entire IR library, as it's probably easier than trying to selectively acquire replacements for the corrupted (UNIX executable) IRs alone.
Rebuilding the folders/categories etc. poses some questions though, and if I could get a head start here it'd be much appreciated.
So, with this in mind, I have a question or two:
1) How many folder layers deep is ProVerb able to read its IRs from?
2) Are we able to place docs, pics, empty "labeling folders" or even the original zipped files in the same folders (a convenience thing) without cluttering up preset browsing (IOW, are these non-audio files ignored?).
3) Can we specify a default setting by which ProVerb saves relevant presets/IRs to the project folder?
I ask this 'cause it seems to me that we'd otherwise have to avoid altering existing IR folder names or locations to ensure future compatibility.
4) Does ProVerb store preset data in the usual plug preset location (lib/audio/presets/digital performer)?
5) Is it possible to get DP to store said data along with the relevant IRs to the project folder by default?
6) What is the full range of formats it'll recognise? Will it see MP3s or SFIs, for instance?
Thank you in advance for any 'Cornie wisdom here.

I had some issues in a new file. I wish I'd written them down. (I've been dealing with life issues, and forgetting my DP experiences) Anyway, they finally required the trashing of the new files. Inexplicable things. If I remember them, I'll post something about them. I've got to start writing down what is going on. I'm pretty sure it had to do with plugins, though, and maybe with VI's, for your story sounds familiar.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Well this is just plain old weird. I still have my file and if it starts to crop up more, I can send MOTU the file for examination. I would imagine that the a subsequent maintenance update will resolve all such issues.Shooshie wrote:
