I agree with Timeline. It looks a little like "so simple an idiot could use it." Not unlike the comparison between iPhoto and Photoshop. Granted, L8 is more advanced in the comparison, but the look is rather dumbed down, IMO.iMAS wrote:How is L8 toy like ? Is it because of those "pictured" instrument icons ? Well, you have the option to turn that off.

Speaking of reverbs, even though I have Altiverb, I've come to really dig ik Multimedia's Classik Studio Reverb. Some of the plate stuff just has that wonderful lush sound of the 80s records I loved.

I bought the WaveArts MasterVerb for a project last month and it is also a great verb. The demo is free, and fully functional for 30 days. Very worth looking at. Their educational discount is 50% if you qualify. The other plug ins are equally good, but not what I need at the moment. The MRNoise was good but I have to admit, the L8 noise reduction may be the only reason I buy the package from Apple.James Steele wrote:Speaking of reverbs, even though I have Altiverb, I've come to really dig ik Multimedia's Classik Studio Reverb. The free LAconvolver convolution reverb works pretty well on an Aux Track. Not real tweakable and an interface that only a programmer could love. But it has "that sound" (that is the sound of any IR you want to load into it).

Oh... it's not really much in this topic, but I have to give a big thanks to Chrispick for I believe mentioning mda Detune in another thread. He's absolutely right... It's the coolest thing since sliced bread on guitar solos and it's free.
Here is my basic general purpose setting for lead guitar:

I'm so glad I finally tried it out. I'm working on a tune right now and I'm lovin' it on lead guitar. I emailed this plug up to my friend whose studio I mix at because it's just so good at this task. Here's a snippet of the guitar solo with Detune on it. Forgive the mix... it's just a rough for tracking.blue wrote:Detune rocks! I use it for guitars too, or anything else I want to spread out.
FYI, lead guitar is a Dean Razorback > Marshall 1979 JMP 100-watt > Vintage 30s 4x12 > Groove Tubes GT-66 > Millennia HV-3C > HD192.

Remember when PTLE came out, (the worst DAW known to man,) and everybody bought it because it was cheap? Logic could be the next PTLE. It may have sucky features and sucky VI's, but once it becomes poplular, watch out. Microsoft is another example of that - a horrible OS with a 95% market share.
The fact that Logic has tighter VI timing on input is going to sway alot of people. I can't even use VI's in my DP, because of the latency. I have to use my hardware MIDI sound modules for actual playing, and then use the VI for playback afterwards.
Another drawback with DP is the inablilty to play Apple Loops at different tempos the way they can be manipulated in Garage Band. (At least according to a thread on this forum, Apple Loops are in a secret format, and Apple isn't letting the secret out.) Granted, Apple Loops are chinsy, but they're handy for roughing out songs quickly. Plus, you've got all those Garage Band users wanting to take their songs to the next level, and if you don't have Logic, they're going to be going to the next level in someone else's studio.
I see no problem with using both programs. The problem I see is how Motu is going to stay in business. Perhaps they'll have to abandon further versions of DP and stick to hardware? Whatever. I'm happy with my DP, and I'm still on 4.6.

I don't need Logic. I don't need Waveburner. I don't think I need any of the Logic Studio bundle (except DVD-A burning), but I'm buying it simply because a lot of people will be using it and, at this price, there's no excuse for me not to provide it as an option in my studio. I've ordered, I'll install it and I'll learn it. My main focus will be on how I can incorporate it into my DP workflow.
Lots of stuff and a recently acquired ability to stop buying

I have to laugh because I have struggled w Logic for years. I have really wanted to like and use it. And I do use it on occasion. But for me it has always been nearly impossible to deal with. Makes me a Sub-idiot I guess. LOL.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:It looks a little like "so simple an idiot could use it." <SNIP> but the look is rather dumbed down, IMO.
There is a reason I purchased a Performer competitive upgrade from Logic. Ease of use, DP wins hands down.

Last point I so agree, although i've ordered L8 as my wife has L 7 and it's too good to refuse but DP still for meemulatorloo wrote:I have to laugh because I have struggled w Logic for years. After I sell PoCo, I'll need some sort of NR, and have already considered this option too.
Unless MOTU includes one soon, along with a bunch of other essentials like a pro 'verb, I think I'm gonna implode - I love MOTU and 'Cornies too much!
