I hope your hiatus involves more than just switching to pencil and paper and perhaps hopefully mojitos and sand between your toes.

It certainly doesn't hurt to do a personal reboot and get the heck away from all these gadgets.

Adding some hard sweat it out physical activity once or twice into your week can be a good thing too. Its a tip I've taken into my life from an interview I'd read with Anatoly Karpov regarding his chess training some years ago. Considering you're a Grand Master of MOTU, it would make perfect sense to take a tip from this Grand Master of Chess.

Hope to see you back in the not too distant future and THANK YOU for all your help!!! You've picked me up when I had fallen on more than one occasion and I really appreciate all you've done!

Kernel panics sounds like bad RAM - for sure I'd replace the lot and see what you get. I'm not experiencing what you are - but most likely it is either one naughty plugin, or bad hardware. App crashes point to the former - kernel panics the latter.

I hope you find it.

I've already replaced the RAM, and Memtest came up with clean results- as did Apple Hardware Test-- several times over. There's no saying that these software tests catch everything--- but part of it still points to holes in OSX or firmware.

But-- the only thing left to do is to hand it back to Apple, which will be done soon.

There was a time when kernel panics almost certainly pointed to hardware, usually RAM. But as the Mac OS has evolved, we are seeing more and more KPs that are software related. The old rule of thumb no longer applies.

hey Frodo- I want to thank you for all of the kind support and feedback you have given everyone,sometimes a break gives you a perspective you would not have otherwise.
I suspect a bad MB or something along those lines..................... I might be off base with this ,but it seems to me your problems escalated with Fab4/Play.have you ever tried taking it out of your system ? I am curious if this is related in any way...... playing music without the technology(the immediacy) is nice ,it makes us create in different ways.
Enjoy the non tech serenity for a while and recharge,
I hope you get this all sorted out

Thanks, KG. You're not short-stopping yourself! From what I've been reading to get around Apple Care thoroughly, it seems that I could expect to be without my MacPro for a month or so.

Yeah-- I'd spent a quite a bit of time with no plugins at all. It was just DP and OSX runnning on built in. I'd even taken out all peripherals.

But I have to also agree with Phil. There's so much going on with OSX as it and things like QT continue to go through considerable tampering (or updates, which ever is the more appropriate term). I've found a few threads on other forums where people started having kernel panics after going to 10.4.10. Some of the stories were downright nightmarish.

But, Fab Four works comparatively well in other DAWs, including Logic. There are little quirks that we know EW has to address, but only DP falls horendously apart with it as it does with some other plugins. I think Fab Four was the one zit on top of everything else. Its flaws were more glaring, but removing it took care of only one set of problems.

This fight ain't over yet!

there is also some posting's on the internet about memory leaks in OSX w/ 8 gig of ram on Macintels ,have you tried using 4 gigs instead?
btw when i had a problem w/ my Mac Applecare sent a tech to my apt,I don't know if this would be their response in your case though.......a month break from all of the tech headaches sounds good to me

I figured half a TOTO's still in a different league from what's out there nowadays.

I was a big Toto fan. There was just so much good writing and playing going on with that band to ignore them.

I don't listen to them as often as I used to, but after all this time one of their tunes will follow me around for weeks until I dust off one a particular CD or two.

Their album/cd artwork was always tops-- all the swords, etc.

I wonder what happened to my copy of the Fahrenheit CD?
