yeah, I've been mesmerized by those things since hearing the leslie guitar on "Badge" by Cream in, I guess it was the late 60's (okay, I'm dating myself - but just for the record I was a little kid).
Then one day, sneaking onto a church stage after almost everybody was gone, dabbling with the organ - flipping switches and stuff and happened to engage the slow rotor - instant MAGIC. Now my studio looks like a spinning speaker grave yard - Leslie, yamaha, rotosound, Allen organ gyrosonic (those gyrosonics are a TRIP! What some people would go through just to get around the leslie patent)

Is that the one with the front facing speakers mounted on a circular baffle that spins? Does it sound any good? It doesn't seem like it'd have as much of an affect/effect that way.

I used to have a little 50 watt, one horn Yamaha that was ok (because it was so protable). It had a chrome trolly like a VOX amp.

Funny you should mention the yamaha - I'm in the process of installing a 6" legend guitar speaker in an ra-50 like you had. It's nice for guitar because it's variable speed ( and I picked it up in a pawn shop for around 50 bucks). The stock speaker is really awful though - made of styro-foam. As far as the gyros - yes, the ones I have each have two mids and two tweeters mounted on this huge wooden disk. I found them by a dumpster behind a goodwill store and have yet to fire them up. I'm sure they will produce some degree of doppler effect (especially off to one side). They must of cost a FORTUNE new - lots of heavy -duty hardware. My favorite (for guitar) though are the leslies with the single old 12" jensen speakers.
