I too feel like I'm "coming home" after I spend time in Logic or PT, though I know much of that is just not being as familiar with them as I am with DP. It's still a great feeling! Plus, 5.11 has been uber stable for me (knock on ram). Can't wait to see what's new at namm.

I'd like to see DP's Take interface improved (Take folders, like Track folders). I'd also like to be able to highlight different sections of Takes and then have DP automatically bounce that into a comp in one step, similar to what you see at the end of this video.

DP's Take interface is great when you're tracking, but not so great when it comes time to sort through all those takes and create a comp. Expandable Takes folders and Comp From Selections In Multiple Takes... These two features are at the of my DP 6 wish list.

Babz, you won't get many arguments that the take system couldn't do with a make-over around these parts.
Tracking is simple and intuitive, but compiling takes efficiently seems to require all sorts of creative approaches.

...such as the lack of a decent GM instrument, which is really useful for quick draft arrangements.

Thanks for the excuse to push MOTU yet again with a 4th August submission I seem to keep throwing at them:

NEXUS - DP's Bread & butter VI module:

1) "Low CPU" mode.
2) Simplified versions of MOTU's existing (synth) techniques.
3) All instruments slected for musicality and usefulness.
4) Provides musical acoustic 4-layer drum & percussion.
5) Uses 4-layer trimmed-down versions of sounds from Ethno & MSI.
6) Offers drag-and-drop sample, Apple Loop, REX etc. functionality, including any Ethno-employed techniques.

Alternatively, the Orchestral and percussive elements could be split into seperate VIs, but that would just be more work for MOTU both initially and in terms of mainetenance.

CONVERB - DP's high-end reverberation engine:

1) "Low CPU" mode.
2) Employs techniques used in MSI.
3) Sensibly sized IR library.
4) MSI convolution library included.

DeePchannel - DP's NEW high-end channel-strip.

1) "Low CPU" mode.
2) Musical compressor with choice of useful vintage behaviours.
3) Musical limiter.
4) De-esser. In this day and age, much more could be done here!
5) EQ with MWEQ topological options.
etc. etc.

One wonders how far off this stuff is.
There should be no doubt it's coming.

sonar 6 came out what like 2 month or weeks ago and it still looks like a crappy windows program and it's work paths were so un-user friendly.

I know. I was at a friend's studio once recording vocals using Sonar 5. IMO, it seems more complicated than Cubase (in an unnecessary way)...and I think Cubase is worse than Logic. And what's up with all these dark gray looking GUI's ? Uhhhh. I guess what I'm trying to say is, Sonar is the last DAW I would ever consider using.

A friend of mine wants to record his pianos, so he went to the G.C. and they tried to sell him on Cuebase. I had him come over and work with DP; he was hooked in no time. His main comments were how every thing looked and worked like the hardware it replaces. The user friendly interface and intuitive GUI got him.
I would not mind having Logic for its VR••™s and effects, I only have limited time using it so I can not intelligently comment on it, although it seems harder to figure out.
For loops I like using Acid Pro, I play it into my mixer then import it into DP. I also like Sound Tracks Pro for loops and creating sound effect tracks. I do not do that much looping for music creation I mostly just use DP like it was a fancy tape deck.

Wooo Hoooo! A postive DP thread. Halleluah! So nice, so nice to see some kind words - and we even got all the way to Page 2 before someone posted anything that was the slightest bit negative about DP!!

Yay! Maybe we have turned a corner/reached a milestone. yippee yippee!

To add my voice, I love DP bestest too despite certain quirks and bumps - no one is perfect, eh? I run LogicExpress occassionally, but everytime I do it makes me feel like I've stepped back into the 20th century when DAWs were still just a gleam in the eye. LE does one or two things well (like running low latency VIs), but DP puts it to shame in every other way, and I mean EVERY other way. Something could be said for the speed of PT HD, but then something could also be said about the extra $19,500 you have to spend to get an HD rig. PT LE really is no competitor to DP, especially because you have to use that crappy LE or M-Audio hardware....yechh.

Anyway, back to the love-fest.

The milestone in my case was the combination of Mac Pro and DP 5.11. It just works, so I spend much more time making music (and money!) than dealing with the gear.

Let me just say that five years ago I came FROM Cakewalk to DP. Now granted, I know that Cakewalk has come a LONG way from that point, the fact is I do not feel that WindowsXP has come that distance. I enjoyed cakewalk (which to me was similar enough to DP that the transistion was smooth), but I did not enjoy the PC. This coming from a die hard PC fan at that point pushing back about 20 years. (I started very young).

I moved to a new area and a local band I was friends with their keyboard guy said come over and check out my G3 running DP2 something. So I did.

Needless to say, two days later I bought a powerbook and four weeks later had churned out four complete songs. Why? Because it never crashed, the audio was never glitchy, and every feature worked. Cakewalk used to crash so much on audio that I used Samplitude on a second machine to record all the audio and just used Cakewalk for the MIDI.

OSX and DP together are the combination (other than the hardware) that have really kept me working on music, and less working on my OS troubleshooting. That's the advantage for me.

I think MOFU (!) are great too. There's always room for improvement though... better TC grid would be good (quarter frames), better native MAS plug-ins, better fade graphics (they look like a childs drawing).

I agree. Great video clip. I have never seen Sonar in action, but this is really a great feature. But actually I think Cubase/Nuendo does this just as good or maybe even better. Depending if your needs and workflow.

Sure both DP and Logic are far behind in this department.

so tonight my friend invited me over for a little jam session and to show him how to use his new daw system he got for christmas. it was a m-audio interface and sonar 6. it has all the bells and whistles all the other programs have. what got me though was it's ridiculously unsmooth set-up. sonar 6 came out what like 2 month or weeks ago and it still looks like a crappy windows program and it's work paths were so un-user friendly. the transport bar had no set place and it constantly got in the way of all the other important monitoring information. so i ran home after i got finished figuring out this insanity program and hugged my 20" apple monitor. and kissed the screen when the dp ever lasting loading logo came on. omg digital performer is so easy to use. i realize this might be biased but come one. why do companies got to make it so difficult just to use the damn program. I LOVE YOU DP!!!! i know there are a lot of my dp sucks or doesn't work right threads. but i will work with any quarks dp has just becuase when it does works it likes hunching butter with a hot knife!!!! share your love! shower dp with your love. becuase you could be stuck with sonar(hahahaha cakewalk!!!!) and a PC!!!

Frankly, I lost most of my hair on a pentium 1/windowz 95/ and cakewalk......com port/irq conflicts/driver issues.....
I almost gave up my dream of making/producing my own music and continued booking studio time at $50.00 an hour with an engineer who has no interest in my music as well as a bad wig.....
Then I rediscovered mac (I used them in college), DP and never looked back.
There was a time when I thought my hair might even grow back, but that never happened. I do have the means of production though.
When I think about how much I love DP, I feel like a 15 year old in love.

I have heard nice things about Nuendo, but I am monogamous with my daw and see no reason to look elsewhere

I have Cubase on a pc, I do not do that much with it, it is just a girl friend, DP is my wife.
