I heartly disagree. There are some features in GB that really help the composing workflow and should be in Logic. Im thinking particularly about the way one selects virtual intruments or complete Channel Strips ( VI+effects plugin settings ) from a seamless choice list dialog.
I think GB shows the way all sequencers that use Virtual Instruments should be going. the whole tedious way in which one selects instrument plugins and patches shoould be re-vamped - to make the process as quick and "invisible" as possible. And GB imo shows how this could be done.

Just testing this thing out

I like the Garageband interface as well, but they could improve it. A feature I would like to see is a single "button" in the channel strip which when clicked opens the VI interface. As it stands, you double click the strip, it opens a window and then you click on the manual button to open the interface. Just adding a VI interface button on the strip would be nice. I find myself using Garageband more and more due to its simplicity. I think simplicity actually inspires creativity and the "pro" apps with the hundreds of options almost tend to make one unconsciously play the "what are the possibilities" tape over and over in the background. I really hope Logic does go the way of Garageband in many ways. I have tried the Logic Express 7 demo and honestly, after using DP for over 6 years, I could not make heads or tails of the environment or even find the process for loading a VI. I spent two hours trying to make something happen. I rarely consult the DP manual and I have maybe twice consulted the Garageband help file. The same with Tracktion (which I purchased for my powerbook, as it is an older 550 TiBook and DP 4 just takes too much horsepower) I was creating music in Tracktion immediately and think that the paradigm they have chosen is similar to Gargeband and facilitates a common sense approach to making music on a computer. It's also extremely affordable and CPU efficient. I wouldn't trade DP for any other DAW, but I think they could and should create an option to use it like a Garageband or Tracktion program in a user interface preference file. That way, it appeals to those who prefer the simplicity of workflow and for those who like the traditional DP, just choose that interface in the preference pane and go for it. The consolidated window is not really the answer because it really just puts the different windows into one window and it doesn't change the basic paradigm of DP. I would like to see them implement a blatant copy of the Gargeband paradigm as an option because millions are using Garageband a liking it very much. Apple has created the DAW for the masses and embracing it would be to DP's benefit.

Um...no you can't actually. You can turn on the new 'follow tempo' feature and you get time stretching based on tempo but Logic does not have a simple way to time stretch by just dragging. This feature is uniqque to Cubase and DP.Originally posted by Megher:
duncan: obviously you can do it the same thing in logic.

arrange/audio/adjust region lenght to locators.
obviously you can assign a key command for that..(set locators with mouse, then hit the key command;simply).
for MIDI sequences you can do it with the drag+opt...exactly like in dp style...

Re: Any former Logic Pro Users Here?
im new to DP, so excuse my ignorance, but it seems that the reason most choose logic is for the plugins and instruments. arent they AU? so doesnt that meen if you buy logic, you can use them all in DP? it seems that people choose DP for the environment... the perfect marrage?
Re: Any former Logic Pro Users Here?
No - Logic's plugs are part Logic's code. Not AU.

Hmm... Well, it doesn't matter as I don't use it anymore now that I have 4.52.

logic is composition tool. the power of logic is the environment and the structure of arrange;not certainly the included plugs.
think about it, i use bfd for drums, vienna for strings, bosendorfer for piano, trilogy for bass..etc..
i use dp too(i m on Performer from version 1.. was 1985 i think..), but in second instance, for audio edit or other stuff; i mix in protools.

Re: Any former Logic Pro Users Here?
And I hope they don't. Yes, the VI's are part of Logic Pro, but you're also paying $1000 for Logic Pro. Compare that to the price of DP. Use the difference in price to buy VI's from innovative 3rd parties. But, do it while these 3rd parties are still willing to develop for the Mac, since Apple is also (wittingly or not) discouraging these vendors from developing AU's by including proprietary VI's with Logic. Think of the message Apple is sending.Originally posted by Rik:
Ok I admit that I like DP better but... The virtual instruments that are included in Logic will knock your socks off! And they are part of the program. I wish that DP would head in that direction!
Re: Any former Logic Pro Users Here?
Im an aussie and over here the box version of DP is $50 more that logic!
i got the cross grade via the internet, so it was worth while.

Re: Any former Logic Pro Users Here?
I have been a DP user for a while, that was my first program. I have Logic 6 but never took to it very well. It just seemed cumbersome to usse compared to DP and, the version I got did not come with the cool instruments. It was the top of the line at the time but for some ****ed up reason there were no virtual instruments or plugs, just a very few. It really sucked not to get those things and I am not about to purchase an entire new program for them. I am through with Logic. Besides, MOTU now has a virtual orchestra and some nice synths as well. I already have a buch of plugs and synths hardware and software so I have more than enough sounds. I just need to play and record and that is all.
