About the DP 9 manual: Have a look at page 366, Figure 36-1. Also the DP 8 PDF manual, page 364, figure 36-1. Look at the bottom of the two windows. They look the same to me. More to the point, neither looks like what I see on the DP 9 MIDI Editor screen. The DP 9 manual does not appear to reflect the changes to the way the MIDI Editor does controllers. In DP 9, I don't see a Quick Filter -- I see a "show only" box that becomes active if I click on a specific controller event, among other changes.

Am I missing something?

You're correct about the manuals. However, there are two Quick Filters in DP9. In the MIDI editor, roll over both Show All buttons. The one on the left says, "Show Only Selected Types (Quick Filter)". The one on the right says, "Show Only The Active Edit Type".

Show Only on the left will show multiple selected CC types.

Show Only on the right will only show the one selected CC that is active.

Try this. Draw in three CC types, (I use Lines Mode for this). Select a point in one of the CCs. Click the Show Only box on the right and only the selected CC will be shown. The others disappear. If you select a point in two different CCs, only the CC who's name is listed in the "Insert Event Type" pull down menu will be shown. The others still disappear.

On the other hand, select a point on two or more CCs (hold down the shift key to do this). Check the Show All box on the left and all CCs that are selected will be shown.

Both are Quick Filters in a sense. One shows all that are selected, one only show the active CC.

Hope that helps.

Steve

Yes I know how it works. I've been using it. I was commenting on the manual. It looks to me like it hasn't been updated to match the version it documents. If that's true it raises the question of whether other updates are missing.

This reminds me of the pdf manual for DP8 in that it wasn't revised for changes that were made during the lifespan of DP8. Like the ability to use or not use the Consolidated Window that was removed somewheres along the line but the pdf manual wasn't updated. Maybe the DP9 manual was done on an early beta and not on the final shipping product.

I don't know if the manual has not been updated. That's what I'm asking. I suspect that particular page does not show what we are all seeing on the screen. It might be just this one thing. The Undo/Redo thing is updated, but I haven't checked any other updates.

On that note, I once asked about compiling an errata list for the manual, thinking it might be useful to new users, if not MOTU. The V7 manual had a few dozen errors, ranging from minor typos to a few total mysteries. But all I heard back was crickets.

I'm usually an early adopter, but as I read through the posts, I see the word bug used a lot. Maybe I'll hold off until 9.01. Dunno.

I think that might be overstated. I've loaded a few in progress projects and been able to carry on uninterrupted, with the benefit of workflow improvements and better screen updates.

The word "bug" always appears a lot but is often misused in place of the phrases "user error" and "software conflict."

Yeah, I see your point. Maybe I'll download the demo and give it a shot. Can't hurt.

FWIW, I'll be putting DP9 thru a stress test once I get my left hand back from the shop Monday. Then I'll post a whole bunch of new bu... uh, user errors.
