They did a great job with this. SSL type punchiness and tight low end without squashing transients or smothering a mix. The release sync to tempo feature is nice as well.

Backbone is a powerful sound-design tool set, with a unique and weird feature set. My one gripe is that there seems to be no velocity switching or key-range settings-- so you can stack up to 8 layers, but they all trigger. Yet, in one demo I saw some things that seemed to be very velocity dependent. Not sure. Anyway, it still seems like a no-brainer (i.e., folks like me will bypass my brains and get it).
