i just tried instantiating a Stillwell Transient Monster on a track and ka-pow... the entire application exited with even a crash on quit dialog. no good.

As I posted earlier in this thread (on page 11), there are several plugs that don't work with DP7 on PPCs. Some controls are just frozen, others don't even display. Maybe this will be fixed in 7.01, but I'm not holding my breath now that PPCs are legacy machines.

As I posted earlier in this thread (on page 11), there are several plugs that don't work with DP7 on PPCs. Some controls are just frozen, others don't even display. Maybe this will be fixed in 7.01, but I'm not holding my breath now that PPCs are legacy machines.

Keep in mind that in some (many?) cases, the problems seem to have to do with changes to the way MOTU implements the AU spec in DP, which means that it's the responsibility of the plug-in developer to revise their products accordingly. The two biggest examples that come to mind are Waves plugs and DP 5.1x, and Kontakt Player 2 with DP 6.

My hunch is that in most cases, the changes MOTU makes to DP are improvements, or at least they're neutral, but I don't know for sure.

I suggest checking with the developers of the affected plug-ins and see what they say.

srirama, not just PPC in my case. MBP 2.4 santa rosa too. And I guess I missed your helpful post because I included the name of my particular plug in my motunation search.

These plugins currently pass all Snow Leopard auval tests and load fine and behave themselves in my minimal testing.

Any brave souls out there are welcome to give these a shot. To save wear and tear on my brain, PLEASE report issues or kudos on MY forums...not here (you're welcome to sing my praises here, however. )

Caveats:

* These are BETA. Save your current version plugins somewhere safe...don't overwrite with these unless you have backups.

* Don't use these on production work or anything that you don't have a safety copy of. I don't THINK there's going to be any problem, but I don't want anyone going ballistic because they had an unforseen BOOM take out hours of their hard work.

* There is still an issue with these plugins blocking keyboard control of the transport. This is the primary reason these betas have been delayed...I have literally spent weeks trying to figure out why what worked before in 6.02/Leopard no longer works now in Snow Leopard. I'm baffled...but Apple's own AUs with custom Cocoa UIs have the same problem in DP now, so I'm feeling less bad about releasing these.

Oddly... Stillwell plugs always worked for me in SL and DP7 but the betas all them to also function in Logic etc...

In previous versions so far, I have been unable to set a key command to change from drawing a volume curve, to drawing a mod wheel curve, to adding pan, etc. (in the graphic MIDI editor). So far we have always had to go to the tiny mini menus at the bottom of the graphic editor.

is it possible, in v7, to change controller assignments for the pencil tool with a key command, when drawing in CC information in the graphic MIDI window? Or has it always been possible, and I've been overlooking it all these years?

I was excited to read the initial reports of DP7, and it seemed that MOTU may have done what I was hoping for: stabilize the app as much as possible. Unfortunately, DP7 is less stable in my workflow than 6 ever was. And that is pretty bad.

In a nutshell, DP7 is totally unstable when I set up VI's to route through bussed outputs. I have easily reproduced this in three different operating systems and two completely separate Intel Macs: 10.4.11, 10.5.8, and 10.6.1 (actually four if you count 10.6.0). I keep hoping someone will see a problem with my methodology for testing this, but it is pretty simple routing. This looks like a serious bug to me, and renders DP7 unusable in my studio.

The other thing I was hoping DP7 would address was the Eucon processor utilization issue. DP7's CPU meter still freaks out when Eucon is enabled in a session that contains lots of tracks (like a large orchestral template with many blank MIDI tracks). I was prepared to live with this one, I prefer to mix as a completely separate phase, and don't really need the Euphonix controllers when composing. But it's still a black mark.

The first issue is the deal breaker for me. As much as I would prefer to work in DP, I need to go back to Logic (again) until this is sorted out. And I can't stand Logic. DP is so much better in so many ways, and actually has fewer of the little buggy annoyances that Logic is full of. But Logic doesn't crash, so back I go for now.

I'll be right back with DP if a fix for this problem is made available, but I won't be buying any more upgrades until I see for myself that DP is rock solid.

I'm not sure what you mean. Doesn't 5.13 have automatic delay compensation anyway? I thought UAD plugs are going to have a latency that has to do with the hardware card and nothing to do with the version of DP running on it.

Is anyone having this little issue with DP7 - playback of a project with the metronome on works fine until you fast forward for a second or two. Then the metronome echoes itself for up to 8 seconds before correcting. In addition you can press stop and the click keeps going for another few beats. This used to happen in DP 5.13 as well.
They fixed the 'record mode count-off' issue, but this seems to be still present.
It doesn't happen when you fast rewind however. Anybody else have this?

I've tried different size projects with different clicks, and given that i've had 3 different computers in the space of DP5 to DP7 I think it would be safe to assume the problem is not from my end. Otherwise DP7 is great to work in

In DP7 I've routed dozens of VI's through dozens of busses. I've had them in the sequence and in V-Racks. In fact, busses are the only outputs I use for VI's. They get routed to stems, which get routed to a submaster which gets routed to a master. I've used DP7 and Snow Leopard almost constantly, almost 24/7, since it came out, and I have not yet had a single crash or forced quit or anything of a kind. No instabilities; period.

I just installed DP 7 and SL. I had to re-authorize my IK multimedia and download the latest MIDI and audio drivers from Motu to get my 2 896HD's recognized.

Everything seems to be working. All my waves version 6 stuff is up, BBE D82 is working, Stillwell plugs are up. I did not check the shwa plugs from the Stillwell site yet.

First impressions... I like it, but there will be a learning curve. The GUI is a little to washed out for my taste, but it is OK. I can live with it. I may look into Amplidoods mods. I don't know how to apply them though.

I e-mailed and also called waves. they said "officially" they do not offer support for the SL and get this.. the guy I was talking to was not aware that Motu had released DP 7!

I had to pay $200 to renew the WUP, but I had not had it for over two years. One thing that I did like though is that now the C1 compressor now has Side chain"ducking" capability. I mean now you can select the bus you want to control it with. That is new and I was needing it. Also I now have the Convolution reverb and they also included a IR library on 2 disks with the update.

I am just glad it is all working so far. Hope it lasts!

That's really interesting. The way you describe your setup sounds just like the way I work. But I must be doing something different, because this has been reproduced on an 8-core mac pro running 10.5.8 and 10.6.1, and a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11.

Are you using Aux tracks for your stems and submasters?

superjesus - are you using surround or stereo busses? also are your busses (submasters) visible in the seq editor?

Amplidood has not released a DP7 version yet (and I didn't dare attempt hack the DP6 version into DP7), but he hopes to have it availble soon. Installation is a breeze (just copy a bunch of files into a prefs directory...he spells it all out in his download package).

It is mucho better...
