Yeah, chord change markers is a great way to 'read' your sequence. Need a special looking marker for that function alone.

Rcannonp's idea about the markers is one of the best so far. MOTU, PLEASE listen to that!!

I love, as a way of reminders, to tell myself what the heck i did (harmonically speaking) in a song. Markers would be great for this. Especially, if we could have, as he suggested, different KINDS of markers (chords, hit markers, note markers, etc.)

So far, my work around has been to make various marker clippings, but needless to say, it's a less-than elegant solution.

Man you ARE Too-dam-hip! That's one of the best suggestions I've heard in a LONNNNNG time. If you could just do a key-click on any item and have its automation track appear in the SE, that would be fantastic! I might start using more automation then!

I sure wish that there was a way to preview clippings or chunks. I would be more productive if I didn't have to drag every MIDI clipping to a track to hear it and decide that it's not the right one.

The ability to solo a track from any of its open plug-in windows.

The first DAW I started working on was Sony (then Sonic Foundry) Acid then fruity loops. Track automation was limited at that point, but you could easily draw in volume and pan lines... then I went to college and learned sequencing on DP. Wow. My music changed dramatically when EVERY parameter could be concieved to evolve, either subtlely over the entire length of the track or dramatically, or rhythmically. DP's automation drawing tools are still the best you can get.

Then I got going in ProTools and learned about how easy it was to access params and automate them, albiet the best way you can do it is with a fader, the drawing tools aren't as in depth.

Live is even easier. Apple-M to start MIDI maping, click the param you want to automate, turn the knob you want to map it to, then apple-m and you're done.

DP is becoming behind in terms of access to its automation params... digging through a bunch of menus is frustrating and takes the fun out of composing in the moment. Not that it isn't functional... its just that other DAWs have really kept making a better user experience.

And not to keep beating the same drum, but I still find it rather unbeleivable that such a popular set up VI's as NI's Komplete collection would not have support for track automation without making a host MIDI controller. In Logic I can automate EVERYTHING.

I am just passionate about this subect because it is a big part of my music...

A way to quantize "markers on the fly."

The ability to have V-Racks Mixer open at the same time as the sequence Mixer.

Some sort of object oriented MIDI separation in the Sequence and Track windows. I know some of you are used to the way it works now, but the abject way DP breaks a MIDI file down in the Track Overview is next to useless IMO. A song with a simple one beat stop in a sequence puts MIDI data for the break of my song in two sections of MIDI data in the Track Overview, some MIDI from the break ends up separated into the main part with no musical reason for that, just that DP slices MIDI in the Track Overveiw based on bars.

1. a preference setting is needed for the mixing board where you can choose if new aux tracks default to solo exempt or not.

2. a mixing board pref is also needed for selecting a new send assignment to start out as PRE fader instead of defaulting to post.

3. allowing shift-click to turn mixing board send levels and pans together in a group of channels. you can't do this now, the most you can do is control all of the sends for one channel at a time.

as far as i can tell, none of these things are possible yet and would be very easy to implement. if there are ways to do them already, please let me know...

I'm hoping that Motu will see the need to update their Mackie Control drivers. They have been paltry and horrible for the last couple of years especially in comparison to Logic's. The Mackie Control units are perfectly integrated and responsive in Logic. In DP, not so much. I really hope they pay attention to the need for certain pro users to have a professional control surface.

Here is the reason why I find this so important... As you can see in the picture, I have invested heavily in a pro control surface, only to have the drivers be almost worthless in the latest version of DP. And please give us some type of interface to be able to customize what the buttons in the Master Control section of the Mackie Control do. Again, check out Logic to see the right way to do this. Oh, and also, the C4 doesn't work at all in DP. It would be nice to have support for the Mackie c4 as well. Either that or Motu, please manufacture your own control surface for DP that works well and is highly integrated.
