No. Haven't even opened it. I'm not that desperate yet and the fact is I can plod along as well as I used to with these big projects so it's not that bad.

What I meant was that I can't see MOTU downsampling, compressing or bit-reducing audio under the hood anywhere in DP for the sake of squeezing out a little more performance, whereas I wouldn't put this past some other companies who're more interested in market share than perhaps the ultimate integrity of our audio.
Downsampling of VI synth oscillators might be another example of this mentality.


Live, for instance, was reported by many users to seem to take a dive in audio quality the more you pushed your CPU.
My guess is that Ableton was intentionally lowering the quality within the mixing engine to free up CPU power as it was needed.
MOTU's consistently shown us that it considers every sample critically important, and also that it values timing integrity at least as highly as anyone else, if not higher.
I remember DP's being the only app, including MonkeyStools, that would allow you to fly ADAT tracks in and out 'till the cows came home with sample-accurate sync.
Then there is MTS, which, even after Emagic and Apple have had their subsequent stabs at it, still provides the tightest timing at sub one third of a millisecond.

It's just an impression that's also an expectation.
We end users expect MOTU to deliver everything but sacrifice nothing in the way of quality.

That would be excruciating, if true!

Thanks for explaining! It never crossed my mind that the resolution of the sample can be touched by some "under the hood" functions... I would gladly sue a company for doing that.

I'm only guessing here, but I believe the basic assumption is sound.

I have faith in MOTU to continue to deliver, at any rate (no pun intended).

Interesting comments MM. The Ableton idea never crossed my mind, but now you have me wondering. I've never warmed up to Live and can't understand why it's such a hot program, but I thought that it was UI preferences that bothered me. Now you have me wondering if there's something deeper there I was picking up on.

We may never know what any of the manufacturers does because it's not something any of them is likely to admit to, you'd think.
Somehow though I've always had the feeling that the perception that MOTU has lagged behind in performance was partly due to its unwillingness to take short cuts.

Do you think a really bad CPU spike could actually cause the world to explode ?

I mean, say, if it travelled down your connection and leaked onto the internet and started a chain reaction or something?

Actually, I'm thinking that the event is more the product of a biblical grudge in that God is long furious with PC users. In the fallout we Mac users may also perish in the "great cleansing of all things begat by IBM"

Still, if I can just get a few minutes with that DP6 Convolution Reverb, I could die a happy man.
