now that we can take a vocal track and convert it to MIDI, i'd like to be able to take MIDI, playing a harmony or two with a keyboard, and apply that to the pitch automation on the vocal track for back vocals.

Unless I'm missing something here, you can do all of these in 4.6.

1.) Under the Movie window's mini-menu, there's a "Copy Movie Audio to Sequence" command (make sure to turn down the volume slider in the movie window after doing so).

2.) Using the Quicktime bounce, you can create a self-contained QT movie.

3.) On playback, you can use the volume slider in the Movie window to adjust the level of the movie's audio in relation to your sequence. However, if you want to create a bounce to disk with both your sequence audio and the movie audio, you'd need to use the "Copy Movie Audio to Sequence" command first.

A few more for workflow and CPU:

1. I would like to see all special DP features be normally OFF with a feature i would call "AUTO OFF" as a button next to each of the special features in the preferences window.

"AUTO OFF" SPEC:

Special features should remain off until you try to use it, then a placard should appear to ask if you would like to turn it on and you would answer yes or no. After you close DP it would revert to off again.

I think this would be a well accepted preference that would save a bunch of headaches when large sessions are in play.

Also again, the DCPUM switch for prefs too.

"AUTO OFF", It's about time!
+______________

2. I think the next generation DP should have two things to make workflow better. First a way to take multiple OP's and 'submix group outs or busses' to an internal, separate stereo or 5.2 monitor buss. Many of us use OTB mixers and that setup should not have to be changed for a quick in the box mix or overdub. Also, balancing to a calibrated stereo mix would be great for setting levels in the multiple OP configurations.

3. After all that, have the ability, like toast, to recognize the CD burners of a system and automatically be able to burn stereo mixes or even 5.1 DVD mixes of a song right from that monitor mix with one command. If a project was at 96K 24 bit it would automatically convert if required to make a redbook cd or allow an open ended cd to add tracks to later if you wanted.

The monitor could be used in the box or then as an OTB reference monitor mix.

This mix should also be recordable in the box without going outside DP.

This would be amazingly HOT!

MIDI controler

It would be good to have the possibility to assign a MIDI controler to any parameter, like in reason or live. That would be a great use of the Beringer rotative encoder

I'd like to be able see the the current hardware buffer size in, say, the audio drawer alongside clock speed and bit depth etc.

The problem is when, for example, you come back to a project after a break and decide to play in some MIDI via a soft sampler so you want a small buffer, naturally. You forgot what size you where working at so you check by openung the hardware dialog - but this operation takes ages, especially if you have a fully loaded sampler, altiverb, a fully loaded BFD etc etc which all have to reload too............EVEN IF BUFFER IS THE SIZE YOU WANT and you leave it UNCHANGED and click cancel it still takes JUST AS LONG as changing it.

By having it displayed in the first place you could haved saved all that hassle.

But I suppose I could just write it down....

To push it more...
Wouldn't be great at the first place that it didn't reboot the whole hardware setting everytime you change it? :D

What about not reinstantiating all VIs and reloading their samples when you change buffer settings!!! Long overdue.

I would like to see the time of the last save displayed somwhere. Ever have Dp crash and find out you hadn't saved in a LONG while? Haven't the time of the last save displayed might serve as a reminder to do so...

a way to save while playing and not have it freak out. it will save fine if you've got a small project, but a big one....forget it.

my PT has NO problem saving while playback
