Re: DP 7.22 released
Sounds like 7.3 may be in the offing. Then again 6 never really got fixed so maybe we're looking at DP 8!

I'm still not convinced this is a bug...

So far we haven't seen any widespread issue that everyone has experienced. As far as RG's freeze is concerned, I've only had the one "freeze" so far, and it could be the situation HCMarkus has suggested, in which case it's not a bug but just an inconvenience. I would suggest that the next time someone experiences a freeze they wait it out and see if DP recovers. Listen for disk activity and check the last modified time on the auto-save file. (Then report back here.) It could be something this simple. Just sayin'.HCMarkus wrote:I had to turn off autosave when working on a two-hour documentary... the sudden (and lengthy) pauses were a real workflow killer while I was assembling the final mix. This may well be what some users are experiencing.

Re: DP 7.22 released
I actually have to work at it to get 7.x to freeze or crash -- the few instances where I've managed to cause a mishap with 7, I was doing a series of things that, combined, overloaded the processor (and these were always things I should have known better than to do simultaneously). I also don't use the Auto-Save feature. While that may not be the brightest move when working with critical data in a project, I've never used a program, and especially one as intensive as DP, where the auto-save feature was a good idea. Having one more function go off while your CPU and RAM are already stretched out to the max (as in my case) usually leads to trouble. I just wind up saving my project after every critical move. A LOT.
Also -- and this goes back to the days of Classic -- I have learned to turn Norton Anti-Virus off while working with DP. In fact, I turn off everything, even Dashboard. Though, there have been quite a few incidents recently where I've gotten online to check my mail or browse without closing down a big project in DP and have experienced no ill effects. 7 is pretty damn stable.

DP 7.22 issues – Notation Editor, etc
1. Notation Editor Window (not the QuickScribe) does not re-draw. After opening the Notation Editor, the screen is blank, no music staffs. Every time you re-open this window, you have to scroll the hidden notation up manually with the vertical bar on the left.
When using multiple Notation Editor Windows, this becomes very time consuming.
Worked fine 3 updates ago. MOTU managed to “improve” it. Reported to MOTU numerous times. Will be waiting for the next update… Oh MOTU…
2. The notation resolution is too low. We asked many times to up the note resolution to at least 32 or above (it’s still only 16). Many professional musicians make use of this window and the “low” resolution is a serious limitation.
OS 10.6.4, Mac Pro 2.93 GHz Quad-Core 16GB, DP7.22, VSL, etc.

Re: DP 7.22 released
Opened a project today to mix (dozen audio tracks or so, no MIDI, easy) and went to import some CD tracks. Got an error message from DP, so I dragged the CD tracks to the desktop, then into DP. After they were in, all of a sudden DP says it cannot locate any of the audio files. I shut down DP, reboot the Mac, and try to open the project. DP says there are no audio files even though the audio files are still in the project folder. I try to Load into a new project and when I highlight that project it shows NO chunks. So, basically, DP did something to it and it is history.
Luckily I have double backups and I just copied one over and started from scratch. I repaired permissions before this round and everything is fine, but that is a very scary thing to have DP just suddenly render a project completely gone right before my eyes.
7.22? Dunno. But this has not ever happened before...

Me too. Since it's such an incremental update, it hardly seems worth it. None of the fixes in it seem to apply to my situation anyway. I'm going to sit this one out until I can see a reason to mess with it.kassonica wrote:Mmm

Re: DP 7.22 released
I agree. So far (knock on wood), I haven't seen any across-the-board problems with 7.22. I have yet to record or mix audio with it, so that might yield issues, but it's behaved well with all my VIs and MIDI, as well as locking to a QT movie for film scoring (still a frame out of sync, have no idea why, but it's gotta be some sort of latency, secondary display -- I have my video only routed out of my MacBook via the DVI port, through a breakout box, through an RCA cable into a cheapo RCA-to-coax converter and then via coax into an old analog TV, which you'd think would explain the frame-off lag, but I've been frame-accurate at least in DP 5.13 -- or processor issue, not a DP one). I'd say it's safe to update, unless lots of people start reporting the same problems.James Steele wrote:Their work here is done. You can always go back if you have issues. I'm having NONE.

Armageddon, thanks for the pre-gen hint, as that's probably the cause of my one glitch, given that I dared to experiment with changing that setting recently. I'll change it back now.

Yep. I'm sitting this one out too. 11 pages of issues just in the first week. None of the fixes apply to me either and I have everything working really well at the moment.dix wrote:Me too. Amazing. Working great here and DP 7.22 is being effectively spiked via this forum.

Re: DP 7.22 released
James, speaking at least for myself, I am not "spiking" DP 7.22. It's just this: DP7.21 works so very well, I hesitate to upgrade absent new features that cry out "must have" to me.
I'll almost certainly install 7.22 at some point (when things aren't quite so busy) following my protocol of installing on a clone partition so I can preserve my 7.21 install.

Re: DP 7.22 released
Here's one for you guys.. I got my new Mac Pro today. Do I install 7.21, or 7.22?
Answer: I install 7.2.1 first, then after I get that working, install 7.22. If something gets broken, I go back. If all is good, I go forward.
I mean seriously, how hard is it?
