the thing that DP has *always* had over the competition is the tasteful GUI... all grey and easy on the eyes.... look at Cubase.. how the hell can people stare at that environment without going crazy! Logic, too, is getting out of hand..

if MOTU turns DP into a rainbow-blast of a GUI it will be a sad, sad day...

KEEP IT ELEGANT, MOTU!!!

Do not worry. DP's interface will not look like this!

This is the biggest...and nearly only...reason I do not even use DP5 right now. My stupid composing workflow is so warped from using different apps...

I love being able to work with MIDI regions, and cycle record MIDI to produce takes OR merge, my choice. And then...edit at region level. Merge regions, cut regions, etc. I really wish someone would allow us the freedom to work with MIDI in the same ways we can audio (typically region level).

All DP6 needs to pull me back is MIDI region editing, MIDI cycle record merge OR take, and better performance. I do not even care if it is 1/2 to 2/3 of the efficiency of Logic; heck, that would be a blessing compared to now, and would be better than PT or Cubase does (currently).

Sorry to seem rantish...been waiting to DP to "get there" since I last used it regularly at ver 3.x..please don't beat me...
Region-based editing is precisely why I do NOT like Logic. It seriously screws up my workflow, and makes editing a chore instead of a breeze. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Go figure.

This is indeed nice news. I'll reserve judgement till I hear them, but good for Motu for finally aiming for a decent compressor and convolution verb plug-in. It would be even cooler if they fixed stuff like the long standing disappearing-MIDI-notes-in-the-drum-editor problem, but one can only hope for so much.

Mostly I'm interested if they are going to finish implementing the rest of the DAE features for DP6 i.e. RTAS on AUX etc.

Same question here. I'm about to spring about a grand on "workaround" pieces of hardware for DP due only to the lack of RTAS (UAD) on busses in DAE.
It's the one thing for me that keeps DP from being my full time front end in TDM world.

As to the GUI changes the scalable Tracks will be nice, Other than that I've never had an issue with it's look Actually I prefer it's current look over PT, Cubase etc.
I really hope they didn't go neon on us.

Slightly OT; I've always wondered why there's not a color choice in DP that has a mix of all the different ones for high contrast. All the pre made pallets are set up with such gradual color changes as to only allow 6 or 7 color selections that stand out. I need to make custom one combining some pastel, some bright, some earth-tones and one from my all time favorite "Monday". It could be none more black.

It seems like it wouldn't be too disruptive to established workflows if they could just tweak the way that the TO window already works and give us the option to make the MIDI grouping user definable. I can't think of how it's in any way musically useful to group MIDI notes based soley on their proximity to each other.

im not a fan of automatic regions either. regions are good for loop based music though. that said, DP already has good looping capabilities, it's just implemented a little differently than in other apps. It would be nice though, to be able to select a range of MIDI notes and "group" them, move them together, cut them etc. best of both worlds.

EDIT: Rcannon, you beat me to the punch!

I'm with you guys. There are times when region-based MIDI editing would come in handy, but it would suck if it wasn't an option either way. It would be nice to tailor workflow around need. Sometimes I do pattern based music, sometimes I don't. Options are nice.

RTAS on busses and masters - check.
RTAS mixed with TDM in whatever way wasn't possible before - also check.

More from MOTU; I didn't pay too much attention, since I don't do Digi, but those two I remember...

Indeed. I'm not particularly crazy about MIDI-regions, but one thing I really miss is when I import a drum pattern from say, Stylus RMX, there is no "name" for that clip I just imported into DP. I would LOVE to be able to see the name of the clip, so I know what came from where. Otherwise you just get a bunch of notes, and figuring out where they came from is just impossible after a while. Some kind of preference for this would be killer. I almost never work with audio/MIDI loops, but for the few times that I do, region editing would be nice... I mean, that's what preferences are for, right?

While this may be true (and very nice), you should always render your VIs to audio anyway..

Hey guys...

I managed to get a picture of the new GUI, and pasted it into my avatar (see to the left).

Pretty colourful... almost too colourful. I wonder if it is customizable.

I don't really like the way that the tracks get so much darker when you explode the takes. :-(

Dude, whatever that is, that's not the GUI... Either you're the prankster, or you've been pranked.
