Thanks, CharlzS, I’ll check it out

There is an option to ALWAYS allow. Since my laptop is lives at home and rarely goes with me; is there any reason not to use "always"?

On my system (in Sequoia) there's no menu option for "Accessories" under Privacy & Security. I didn't find Quartet under any of the dozen or so other categories, though I did find Apogee Control 2 (the controller app for Quartet) in the Microphone menu and it was enabled.

Mine was set to "Always" and the thread that I found said to change that - there might be some issue with the Always setting.

Maybe it's just a laptop thing? It's at the bottom of my Privacy and Security settings after FileVault.

As an aside, it was always annoying to me that Mac OS might prevent me from opening a newly installed app-- UNLESS I knew the "cheat code" which is to right-click and choose open from the contextual menu. Now Mac OS has replace this with a new cheat code: go to System Settings/Security & Privacy and scroll to the bottom and choose open anyway.

Me: "Um, so you won't let me. ... but you will let me, if I know the secret ways."

In this case, "the secret way" is to unplug the usb cable from the back of my interface and plug it back in again.

I've been having some of these issues recently as well with Sequoia including 15.4.1 and 15.5. I have a brand new 16A connected directly to my Mac Studio (all ports are Thunderbolt 4) and sometimes it is not recognized when I start up my Mac or even wake from sleep but it happens rarely. Sometimes my iLok which is connected to a little hub loses connection. Plugging back in "fixes" the issue. And now I bought a little UGREEN Thunderbolt USB-C hub and I have connected some drive docks to it (from OWC). I have various backup drives and stuff, all self powered by the docks. I have to unplug and plug back in that little hub every single time. If I try to power up a drive which is off but connected to it (turn on the drive dock), no go. Unplug and plug back in and then it works perfectly.

I don't know if these are Sequoia problems ( I think so) or my new little hub. I tried running things without it and still had some issues.

I have occasional "not seen" issue with one device, a Shuttle Xpress. Only rarely it is not active upon startup and an "unplug-replug" fixes it. I had other issues that were all resolved by 1) Powered USB Hubs for external 3/5" Hard Drives and, 2) Startup Sequencing. With my studio, I am a 'shut down at night and re-boot next morning' guy.

For anyone having missing peripheral issues at Startup, I'd recommend experimenting with your power up sequence. I always power up my 828ES and all peripherals and wait for HD spin up before booting my M1 Mac Studio. Have not had issues with missing peripherals since I started doing this.

Worth a try.

I don't know if this helps, as I'm new to Sequoia and Silicon, but I switched my power sequence today and it seems to have eliminated some glitches I was seeing in attached USB devices being recognized at startup.

Previously, I thought it safer to power up my new ASUS monitor first, then the new Mac Studio. Inverting that order seems to have helped. I have the two devices connected via HDMI, but as of tonight, I also have the supplied USB-C cable connected as that allows the USB-A ports on the ASUS monitor to be seen and available, such as for my older backup drives and iLok.

That's exactly what I do Markus and no go. Been chatting with tech support at UGREEN and will switch it out for a different brand.

While running down another issue in the Privacy & Security pane of my System Settings, I discovered a notice at the bottom of the list asking if I wanted Sequoia to enable the Apogee drivers. I checked the box and restarted as directed and my Quartet started right up. I wonder if this will continue?

I will report back.

I'm sorry to report the issue of my USB audio interface not initially being recognized by my Mac Studio on startup is continuing, though once in a while—for no apparent reason—it does decide to work.

Sorry to be repetitive, but have you tried varying device startup order Rick?

In my studio, the Mac is the next-to-last thing to get turned on when starting for the day. Last thing is my HDMI TV display. The Display Port secondary display is started before the Mac, but I've found that If I start the Mac with both displays running, it takes awhile for the Mac to see the secondary display properly. Issue is avoided by waiting to turn on the TV.
