My G5 Dual 2.0 (PowerMac 7,2) with PCI (Not PCI-X) slots took the 424 (not the 424x).
The 424x was backward compatible as a replacement for the original 424 and 324 but you could not use those cards in a dual-core G5 like mine.

You are correct. The 2408mk3 is the same as the 828mk2. Typo on my end. Sorry.

Yes, I know what it says. One day I'll drag out the G5 open it up, and look. The paper work tells me I have a G5 dual 2.0 and a 424. Note it doesn't have PCI-X.

There were a few with only 4 RAM slots and dual core. I remember those as existing but have never seen one. I'd believe a non X PCI slot. What I find curious is that you mentioned the 324 wouldn't work. My old 324 card sits in a single core 1.8 (or did).

If it has 8 RAM slots, I'd like to see pictures. That's not supposed to exist.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have 8 RAM slots. I bought it because I thought my PCI Cards (Video, UAD, MOTU) would work on it and I wouldn't have to upgrade anything.

Every thing went to faster PCI versions after that. It was replaced soon after with the 7,3 2.3/2.7G versions. I'll dig it out and have a look. I might even start it up and look for smoke.

Check your model number either in System Profiler or the sticker on the back and look it up at http://www.everymac.com. The G5s were weird when it came to PCI slots.. The 2.0 that came out with the 2.3/2.7, right before the last dual core models, for whatever reason has regular old PCI. The two before it came with PCI-X. I have the 2.0Ghz dual core model and it has PCIe in it heh. Apple just couldn't keep up with how quickly stuff was changing in 2004-2005 I guess..

As per above it's a PowerMac 7,2. Model is M9747xx/A. All of this is easy to find in MacTracker.
