Thanks Tonio. The studio is running so nicely at the moment, I think I'll just hold off until Catalina arrives, then consider going to the last version of Mojave, which will probably be 14.6.
I'm working with a library from the Middle East at the moment, and having fun with my new NI Komplete12 toys that fit the realm. Kontakt 6 is smooth, and I just keep piling on the VIs. DP 9.52 is performing like a champ.

These links went down shortly after that was posted and came back up on July 29.
Those Macs I updated from the original download were asking to be updated again around August 1. As before, running the updaters from the App Store often resulted in incomplete updates. Downloading the July 29 updaters and re-running them fixed everything back up.
The 10.14.6 Combo Updater appears to have been unaffected.

I updated from those downloads, and as you say, the App Store still lists the High Sierra security update as pending. It was shown as pending as soon as installed it after the restart, not a couple of days later.
But I usually find that the App Store doesn't seem to be aware of updates that were downloaded via the Apple site. Even regular OS updates I do via a combo update downloads show as pending on the App Store for several days, regardless of what "About This Mac" says.
Surely, if Apple decided it's security update was no good, there would have been some sort of notice, even if from 3rd parties?
This update treadmill is getting tedious. But soon, 4 of my 7 Macs and all 4 iOS devices will be obsolete.

Apparently I didn't get this w/ DSP-Q or iTunes
Can you record audio in iTunes? Since it's part of the Mac OS, probably not an issue.
It must depend what you're doing but DSP-Q does ask to use the microphone. It's in my list of apps that asked and were granted permissions.

Apperently there was but you had to know to look for it. This article makes it look like some sort of universal issue. I didn't know about it till my wife's iMac and MacBook Air both said that there were updates available.
Apple Pulls 2019-004 Security Updates After Kernel Panics UPDATE: FIXED!

On both of my wife's Macs, the update list showed that I ran the 2019 004 on July 23 and again yesterday.
No doubt I'll hear from my school clients tomorrow.

Thanks for that. I guess I better update yet again. This will probably be the last one before Apple abandons High Sierra.

No, High Sierra has one more year of security updates.
It's Sierra that gets the plug pulled between September and November. Unofficially, it will coincide with the release of Catalina in September. The official date will be when Apple sends an email to large corporate and government customers—usually in November.
California has laws that Apple follows on this.

Wait! There's more!! The update released the first time around also buggered up Safari. It now is unable to render links and some types of pages from several sites I use regularly. That includes the page where you download the the High Sierra security update 2019-004. I've had to start using Chrome for a lot of stuff that Safari won't do any more.
I'm very disappointed in Apple's poor performance in update quality over the past couple of years. They don't seem to have managed to screw up Mojave yet, but there's still time.
