I dont see "AppleMCEDriver" in that report but I do see "Fbd memory error".

Since the problem is so intermittent it's not really practical to remove sticks and see if it recurs. Could take months to find the problem that way.

I just downloaded a RAM tester so I'l give that a try.

Oy.

Question: There must be at least some RAM that wont get tested since it's busy running the machine, right? Does that make any sense?

Huh. Running the tester it tells me I have 2 gigs of RAM to test. I used to have 6. Haha.

Even in "About this Mac" it says 2 gigs, so there are 4gigs of bad RAM in there. I though I looked at that, since it's happened before. Cant believe I missed it. Duh!

Yes. A standard test will only work on unused memory. Always best to run it after a reboot so that you have the most free.
Even in "About this Mac" it says 2 gigs, so there are 4gigs of bad RAM in there...
That, on the other hand, tells you the amount of physical RAM the system can see. So, yes, you have a bad stick.

"Bad Ram! Bad Ram! No biscuit for you!"

Oh yes, I see it now. I tried "command-f" and didnt find it, but I must have typed it wrong, or something.

Wow, talk about customer service. I bought the two RAM sticks from OWC ten years ago. They come with a lifetime guarantee and they are indeed going to replace them free.

I guess that's the place to buy yer RAM, eh?

That reminds me of my old PCs...

It sounds like a bad stick of RAM to me."

But thanks to all who chimed in. All's well that ends well....I hope. We'll see....

If somebody didn't already say it... you may find some more RAM serves you well Gabe. One or two additional eight gig sticks should allow youMac to operate without swapping to and from disk.

Oy, spoke to soon. The bad RAM is out of the machine and on its way back to OWC and I just had another restart. Of course there's only 2gigs in there now but all I was doing was surfing the web.

Here's the report. I do see some slight differences between this one and the earlier one but I, of course, have not a clue what it all means. And yes, I know this isnt very much RAM generally speaking, but I'm really not doing anything very taxing lately. VO, mostly.

Sorry to keep boring you guys with this.

Still looks like a RAM problem. Are you sure you isolated the correct RAM sticks?

I'm surprised it started up with 2G. A cold start, then launching Safari on my system, and coming here, takes 3gig, and Safari itself is using less than 100Mb.

Also note that "AppleMECDriver" error is still showing up, and there are reports of an association with a problem with graphics cards or drivers.
