Re: Download for Sierra 10.12. ?
I just uploaded the latest Sierra 10.12.6 installer. It's at the same link as earlier in this thread, just the newer installer. No subsequent combo updater is needed. The zip archive is 5.02GB. Here's the link again:

For some reason, this requires you to bypass Gatekeeper but, once done, will work.James Steele wrote:I just uploaded the latest Sierra 10.12.6 installer. I used it to upgrade my 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 > 5,1 from El Capitan to Sierra without any problems.bayswater wrote:Doesn't that give reason to pause?

Re: Download for Sierra 10.12. ?
I wasn't asking whether it works. Rather, what is Gatekeeper seeing in this package that it doesn't like? Why isn't this happening when you install directly from the App Store?

It’s not seeing a signed certificate. The zip file has the wrong name, as if it was zipped on a PC instead of a Mac. Was it archived using a 3rd party Utility? Strange.bayswater wrote:I wasn't asking whether it works. Rather, what is Gatekeeper seeing in this package that it doesn't like?
The 10.12.6 installer I have doesn’t have this issue. I unzipped it and checked. I downloaded and archived it in Sierra the day before High Sierra was released.
You can’t get it from the App Store anymore. Why isn't this happening when you install directly from the App Store?

I zipped it in the Finder of my Mac under Sierra.mikehalloran wrote:The zip file has the wrong name, as if it was zipped on a PC instead of a Mac. Was it archived using a 3rd party Utility?
When I originally downloaded it - from another forum - it was zipped, but I didn't save the zip archive.
At first I was concerned about the origins - I got it from an anonymous forum member. I don't know where he/she got it and didn't ask.
I'm normally more cautious about stuff like this, but I decided to just go for it and see if it worked - and it did. (I cloned my system drive before installing, so I figured I was somewhat safe.)
Not only did the install go smoothly, but my computer has been running fine ever since. It's been about two weeks.
BTW, I disable Gatekeeper on my Macs, so that wasn't an issue for me.

Apple removed FTP from the Terminal command line in High Sierra wt.? and browsers are allowing download only ... Anyway, I downloaded FileZilla, a crude but free FTP client that wants to install browser tabs and extensions (just click no). That installer crashed my browsers so close first.
No doubt there are better FTP clients out there but this is working in High Sierra (many don't). You should see it in a couple of hours according to the timer.

I'm not likely to go looking for another FTP client since FileZilla does work. The one I sold and supported at Distinct Corp 20 years ago was nicer but it's Win only. Hmmmm... it's gone as a stand-alone product (but then, so am I).

Re: Download for Sierra 10.12. ?
Okay... I uploaded the installer Mike sent me. I'm using a different URL keeping the spaces in the file name (which show up as %20 in the URL). I've deleted the old installer, which was probably fine, but this new one should be 100% safe. If there's any issue with Gatekeeper, it might be because it's been up on a different server than Apple's at some point. It's a 4.7GB download. Here's the link:

Re: Download for Sierra 10.12. ?
This probably won't be needed because James already uploaded the installer, but I thought it was interesting that Sierra is available from the App Store:
From the MacInTouch forum:
"If you're looking for Sierra in the App Store, it looks like this link is working, at least for the moment:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-s ... 7414?mt=12
(I just verified that it works on one of my machines. Hat tip to the Low End Mac group on Facebook for the link.)
Why does Apple have to make everything so difficult these days?"
Is it better to download it from the App Store and quit the installer to save it, or is it the same installer that Mike provided?

Thanks, rentadrummer! That worked.rentadrummer wrote:https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-s ... 7414?mt=12
I suspect it's better to have an installer downloaded from one's own Mac App Store account. I don't know this for sure, but I replaced the one I downloaded from another forum with this one (even though that one worked).
Weird: in the MAS, it's now listed under "Other Purchases" and "Purchase Date" is Jan 01, 2000.
Also: it says "Installed", which means it recognized the installation I did a couple of weeks ago with the other installer.
Thanks again!

Re: Download for Sierra 10.12. ?
The file I uploaded is already zipped. This is important for the installer to work on any Mac other than the one that downloads it (unzipping on your Mac gives you the proper permissions and privileges if you are logged in as Admin). That is the only difference.rentadrummer wrote:This probably won't be needed because James already uploaded the installer, but I thought it was interesting that Sierra is available from the App Store:

Cool find and hats off to Low End Mac group! Even knowing where it is, I cannot make that come up in any search of the web or the App Store. Thanks for posting it.
So, Apple has removed all links to it but left the file up. If there has to be a reason, I would think it is so that Apple Support can just email a link without having to open another back door to their FTP site.
