Yes, it is related to OSX 10.8.5. Our developers were able to reproduce the issue and are currently working on a fix. I will keep you posted.

Ah, good sleuthing! I'd been chugging along on 10.8.5 for quite a while because, "it worked". I ran into our mutual VMR problem and thought I'd do just what you did, install 10.10 on a partition and see if that made a difference. Then I found that Apple needed to determine what shoes I put on in the morning and was only making El Captain of Software Glitches available.
