I seem to remember the release of MachFive 3 being touted at a NAMM show and being released like 18 months or so later, maybe longer. I'd be very happy with a stable DP 8..1.

I would expect DP9 not to drop until April-June.
Just a guess, but most of 8 seemed like development was making sure cross platform was tight, now 9 should introduce some more drastic changes on the lines of 6-7.

I haven't had any bugs with what I use DP8 for, but I get the impression MOTU are struck with the on/off phenomena you see with OS versions:

Leopard - meh
Snow Leopard - good
Lion - meh
Mountain Lion - good etc.

Same on the Windows side:
XP - good,
Vista - meh
7 - good
8- meh

Seems like MOTU have caught that programmers jinx.
5 - good
6 - meh
7 - good
8- meh

So here's to 9 being good!

It does seem too soon for a new version update to me, but I'm sure MOTU has their reasons and maybe it is a drastic update that we will all love. I noticed that PT released v12 and the user comments on the update have been pretty bad. Usually, you see the new releases on the first day of NAMM, so I'm surprised there is nothing about it yet.

For those at NAMM, please keep us posted on this. :)

Wasn't 4.5 the introduction of the consolidated window?

Looks like I'm one of the first to say I saw the demo of DP 9 yesterday at the show.

If someone posted this elsewhere, I apologize…here's the concrete list of features I saw demoed:

The new 64-bit MX4 synth will be included in DP9.
There are now "lanes" for all automation, in both MIDI and audio tracks, which can be viewed
superimposed over the track, or as separate windows beneath the track.
QuickScribe will now export a Music XML file (great for those Sibelius users).
New "1176" style FET compressor.
New guitar stomp box effects including emulation of Electro Harmonix POG.
New "session comments" sidebar feature, you can enter general comments on each sequence, like "engineered by.." etc.
Mixer looks about the same, pan knobs are much bigger. Overall GUI appearance is about the
same as DP8.
Audio tracks can now display spectrograms as well as waveforms. You can view both or either one.

No mention of upgrade pricing, or exact date of release. No mention of O.S. requirements.
Magic Dave did say he was showing the features that "could be shown", which I took to mean there will be more but they weren't ready in time for the show.

one of the regulars at the FB non-affiliated DP page saw the demo, and said he's going back today because there was too much new stuff to recall... But what he did remember was....

- A macro track creator
- A new spectrogram view for audio
- lanes for controller data on tracks. For example, on an audio track you can now have volume and control automation in their own track lanes beneath the track and hide and show at will
- export a sequence as music XML and import into Sibelius or Finale
- a new 1176 plugin
- a new quadrafuzz plugin
- a new octaver plugin
- will ship with MX4 synth for free and now 64 bit

And s bunch more. They are saying it will ship in the spring.

My jaw dropped.

I hate to say it, but I (and one or two others) argued some years back that this would be a savvy business move. Most disagreed. Seems MOTU thought otherwise.

Way to go, oh Gods of MOTU!

Hooray! This is gonna make a whole bunch of folks happy.

I thought I saw that in the pic earlier.

The HQ stomp-box collection grows... bloody Hell. Awesome.

Great. I can paste "this song sux eggs... hard" into each project. Handy.

If it ain't broke...
David Polich wrote:Audio tracks can now display spectrograms as well as waveforms. You can view both or either one.
I speculated on this just 2 days ago, sayin' we need it. MOTU was already there.
David Polich wrote:No mention of upgrade pricing, or exact date of release. No mention of O.S. requirements.
OS should be SL or ML IMHO; MOTU does try to look after those of us who're not on the bleedin' edge.

As for pricing, I think I care less than ever now; so much fantastic news, and that's not even all of it! Pity we'll have to wait such a (traditionally) long time for it to filter down to Australia.
