That's exactly what I was trying to say
Among Sonalksis and Waves, I would suggest also another great sounding plug, ValveTone 62 from
http://www.tritonedigital.com
I think they have a demo too to evaluate.
Good Luck

Here's my 2 cents worth since I own the Powercore PCI. Unless you are going to pinch pennies and buy the Element, I would take my money and buy Waves instead. I bought the Waves Gold package after having my Powercore for about 6 months and I wish I had purchased Waves in the first place. Heck, with the money that I ended up spending on both, I could have bought the Platinum package. In my opinion, the Waves plugins are far superior to the Powercore plugins. Now days, the only plugin I use from my TC suite is the Voice Strip.

Just out of curiosity, what type of music do you produce using Waves?

UAD is amazing. The new Precision Limiter does such a great job that I feel like I can do some pretty decent mastering with the new Masterworks EQ and the precision limiter.
I have heard from others that the Powercore is clean but a little sterile.
IMHO- I love the UAD card now that DP4.5 has auto delay comp.

"Just out of curiosity, what type of music do you produce using Waves?"
Allan, I produce a myriad of styles. My "money" gigs are typically Rock & Pop bands. Currently, I am working with an original Funk band called Calumet. (
www.calumetband.org) I also get a lot of work with Hindu and Comtemporary Classical music. The Hindu & Classical stuff is primarily live 2 track stuff. I am also a Blues musician, so aside from my own stuff, I periodically work with other blues bands as well. (it's quite ironic, though, that my favorite genre provides me the least amount of income)

Great to hear. I too am looking for a great suite of plugs that are effective in a wide variety of styles. Thanks for the info.

So far the best reason to own one of the "outboard processing" boxes is to keep your buffer settings as low as possible and still have some effects applied to existing tracks while overdubbing. Reverbs are great to have handy when tracking vocals but people with mixerless setups are screwed when they decide to put a REAL reverb on something that has a few plugs on it already. Sure the new G-5s are fast but i like to keep as much processor headroom as possible at the lowest buffer settings when tracking.

ditto.
i own the uad-1 card but if i could go back in time i would purchase the waves plugs first. it's what i use the most these days.
btw, a question for Wonder, have you tried the elemental audio stuff (firium for example), it's not as expensive and it's quite good. to my ears at least.
cheers!

I have the Nomad Factory Blue Tubes bundle and just love it. I use it in as many places as possible. If you want real vintage, you can't go wrong. I've tried every demo out there and have a lot as well, but this bundle blows me away. It rocks PERIOD. It does not sound like waves at all. As far as I'm concerned just as good or better, but different. Very rich etc. You can download their demo.

:p

I have not heard of those bundles...i'll check em out...thanks.
the real reason why any of us NEED plugins is for mixing? right?
when, in actuality, i'd rather pay a real studio to use all their outboard gear and mix in the studio than slave over doing it myself....cause I HATE MIXING!!!!

Just like any other craft, mixing is an art form. There are people that come by it naturally and others that have to really work at it. I fall into the 2nd category and used to dread the time when all of the tracking was complete and it was time to mix. I dreaded it because I wasn't any good at it, but my customers wanted me to mix it rather than send it somewhere else for mixing. Now, 3 years later, I'm still an amateur, but I don't dread it because I have learned so much. A lot of it is trial & error and alot of it is from places such as this site. There are so many users on this site that have contributed a wealth of knowledge and the greatest thing is that the information doesn't cost a dime.

I was hating mixing too, but that was before I had great processors at my disposal. Actually, I enjoy mixing a lot

Mixing is truly an art

I Love and adore mixing.
So far as outboard reverbs... Why are we discounting the fact that Motu has added DSP to their boxes??????
That Latency, low buffer thing is crap now.
with the PCI 424 and the 828mkII/896HD you dont mix the same way and the people are not screwed. Mixing in and outside the box is what I do with my internal and outobard reverbs.
Last thing to tweak is unisyn for me.
Seeing that all my boxes have MIDI support. and most have a unisyn profile.

i should restate myself...i'm more of a musician than a techy. I like to spend time arranging and charting rather than compressing and reverb(ing?)
