You have a strong opinion regarding the superiority of Western Digital drives over Seagate
You have no idea. I have even stopped replacing Seagate drives under warranty. The replacements don't even last the rest of the warranty period.
The original Seagate HDs in Time Capsules were garbage and generated so much heat they often took out the power supplies. Apple went to the WD Green drives which lower the heat by quite a bit. Although wireless performance improved with each generation, they all perform the same over Ethernet. If a used one works, the power supply is good and replacing the 500MB or 1G furnace with a 2T or 3T Green will let them last a long time. Instructions on the net are easy to find and it's an easy replacement.

Hi all
Klaus here
...and late to the party
I'm currently using several Mac Minis 1.1, upgraded with a Core 2 Duo processor
for my 'live'work
10.6.8
DP 7.24 to record on SSD.
Understanding the 32bit /64bit / 10.7 / 10.8 dependencies is hard ( for me )
edit :
http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.ph ... ostcount=2
I know I can upgrade these Minis to 10.7 via several hacks, but 'think' the 64bit EFI is needed...
http://forum.netkas.org/index.php/topic,874.120.html
Would 10.8 also run on these Minis ?
But then, DP 7.24 won't run in 64bit and also not the plugins from now ( SL )
So my only way to go ( for the moment ) is 10.7, yes ?
( if - DP8 would be used to record only, 3rd party plugs are not a must )
Thanks a lot for help
and best regards
Klaus

Hi Klaus,
A 2007 Core 2 Duo will run Lion but do you need any of its functionality? If not, why upgrade the OS?
Rosetta capability was dropped with OS 10.7 so there might be some older plugins that will no longer work.
Yours is too old to run OS 10.8 and newer. Time to move to a late 2009 Mini or newer? Actually, the 2012 version with the i7 Quad core was the best Mini for DP in all ways that count – also upgradable.
DP 7.24, and 8 should run fine on your Mac as is. I suspect that the same will be true for DP 9. If run in 32bit mode, your current plugs should all work.

Thanks Mike
I heard from Behringer ( I use X32Core(s), see my sig, that 32chx32ch streams are not reliable in 10.6.8, but maybe they meant via USB, and that it was reliable from 10.7 on upwards.
I'm using Firewire anyway...
Maybe the day comes when Behringer will not support 10.6.8 anymore with the remote control software X32-Edit, and then I'd have to be at 10.7, that's why I would like to go 10.7
I read here some are using 10.7.5 successfully too.
In the studio, there are Mac Minis 4,1, but also with 10.6.8, so there is 'air'
Hmmhhh, to much work and not enough time for tech stuff...
Best
Klaus
