I may have solved the problem. I did chat with DP tech support. Got a great guy that was as puzzled as I but we tried a few different things, then talked about things to try after I got off the phone.
What I wound up doing was this...
Delete Audio/MIDI Preferences.
Make a new Aggregate device even though it really was just the Main out of the computer.
Back in DP I deleted all the Bundles that I wasn't using and reset all ins and outs.
Now DP 8.05 seems to be behaving like it is supposed to. I can close and reopen without the mute bug showing up. My guess is the Audio/MIDI preferences were corrupted.
