Omnisphere has a pretty good patch I've used on some Halloween stuff.

Whenever I need a "theremin sound", I usually end up using one of the theremin-style patches on G-Force's Minimonsta (a Minimoog emulator). Sounds pretty convincing, especially with the legato.

jleob,
thanks for the point to the Odnes Martenot (spelling?). Its not a Theremin, but WOW, the demos blew my mind--and very Theremine-like sound. I may go that way.

Still, the Wavelore and the Spook Keys Theremins have "that sound"!

I double-checked, and indeed Wavelore Ether-Phone has now become my go-to for Theremin, with my custom Moog Voyager sine wave patches as backup and also when I'm going for a very specific vintage sound that I want to emulate. I love the reactivity of the Wavelore library though, even if it is sample-based (lots of scripting, I suspect).

An ensemble proposed by Musicrow exists under Reaktor.

Forgot all about that one! It sounds pretty good, actually; I just rarely end up using Reaktor. All of Musicrow's Reaktor instruments are decent.

What's up with the Wavelore web site? Their store is blank and I've emailed them twice and no response. Does anyone know if they are going out of business or something?

I have finally settled on the Wavelore and now...kaput. My luck. LOL

I was looking at it too and the store is blank. From the thread on their forum it's probably best you weren't able to order.

I cheat. I bought my daughter a Theremin a few years ago. Being an instrument that can be played with one hand or with my limited movement to control volume, I play live when I need the sound.

Dan Burns has single antenna (fixed volume) Theremins for $83 and twin antenna instruments starting at $152 (that's the one I bought).

Classic - for about the same cost as getting a plug-in, you can have a real-life version (and, no doubt eventually, a dust-collector!). Now I am thinking, where could I put it...

Just stumbled across SampleMoog from IK Multimedia. It has several Theremin samples and presets. Sounds pretty good and currently on sale for $39. 32 bit though.

unfortunately many of the IK VI's like Sampletank,SonicSynth & SampleMoog do not work in DP8,there is some kind of incompatibility between IK's design and DP8 at the moment, most users myself included have not been able to get these IK instruments to work in DP8.
Joao from jBridge says there's something in IK's implementation that is not designed like other developers VI's.
I talked to people at IK about this, they say these will work in SampleTank3 which will be 64bit whenever that is eventually released.
I use Amplitude3 and tRacks without any major issues but if anyone is using DP8 I'd tread carefully if you don't already have them with buying any of these before IK releases ST3.
I think some users are using STank,SMoog & SSynth successfully with DSP Quattro as the host via Soundflower but in DP8 directly seems to difficult,at the moment.

I hadn't tried it in DP, just standalone as it was late and I just loaded it and played standalone to check it out and was surprised to see the theremin (I've been looking for a soft version and have been trying to keep myself from buying the real thing).

Based on your post I booted DP 8.01 in 32bit and loaded SampleMoog v 1.0.2 (9117). When I first brought it up the interface was all white so it's definitely got some problems in DP. I clicked inside the SampleMoog interface and the normal interface appeared. I was able to load a sound, recorded into a sequence and playback the track and everything worked fine. Again, this wasn't an exhaustive test, and you have to boot DP in 32bit, but for whatever reason it seems to work (so far) on my system.
