OK - time for me to resurface, and acknowledge the great feedback to my little post. Seriously folks, I do more reading than posting on this board, but I have many things to digest here. FYI - comparable thanks to respondents to my UAD-1 post too (i don't want to bump that thread for mere thanks alone, but hopefully those respondents will read here that their input was duly appreciated. The threads were clearly kindred spirits...).

One sidebar: I've been using an ART D/IO, and am thinking that perhaps there are better front ends to my chain. Sure you get what you pay, for but some more experimentation is in my future...

All you need is love (and some serious outboard gear...) Oh yeah, and beer! Some good beer insights on Unicornation, too. Watch for my new thread on the proper beer for vocal tracking. German? Wisconsin? Low Carb? Don't get me started on Vodka.....

no sweat.
and yes a better front end means better sound of course.
before you go that route ask around A LOT, specially here.

btw, nothing like a nice trappist ale when singing, hell, nothing like a nice trappist ale period.

I get the coolist vocal tracks.... I stick singers in a super dry little vocal booth..... Mic choice can range depending on the singer..... Sometimes a Rode NTK...
Sometimes a U-87.....though usually my Tracy Korby modified
Neumann U-67 tube mic through a neve 1272 pre into a UA LA2A (hardware not software)... I'll give the singer a little verb but only in the headphone mix and only if they ask for it... track em dry add verb or slap later....
No beer for the singer ...No beer for my 2nd....and a six pak for me... I get cool sounding vox.....singers come from all over to do vox here even if they have been tracking eleswhere...... With this chain I can make a great singer soung great or a bad singer sound even worse......
G5 quad 2.5 ghz w/ 8 gigs ram, OS 10.5.4, DP 5.13,DP6, Mach 5,Mach 5 v2, SI, two loaded UAD-1e cards, PCIe 424, two Black Lion Modded 24 I/O's, Harrison 3624 console, cool old mics, pre's and compressors.....Great sounding Rooms.........
