As soon as DP arrives (Oct 3) I'll be trying that as my very first test.

Just put my entire Bidule load into My DP8 Orchestral template running in 64 Bit Mode. Barely a blip! :woohoo:

I am totally digging DP8!!! I guess that I no longer need to be using Bidule? I am usually the last to upgrade, but I have to say that all my plugs work in DP8. Thanks MOTU! I am now running in DP8 land. Did not figure that to happen so fast!

Are you saying that DP 8 alone, loaded with identical orchestra, is MORE efficient than the same orchestra with Bidule and DP 8?

"Just as the current versions of Reason and Reason Essentials, ReWire is 64-bit too. Note that 64-bit ReWire needs to be implemented in both the slave application (Reason, Reason Essentials) and your host. Please contact the manufacturer of your ReWire host of choice for compatibility information."

Having said that I cannot find a Rewire 64 bit downloader but there is a page with Reason, Recycle downloaders so maybe one it's included in one of those downloads. Here's the link:
http://www.propellerheads.se/download/

I've decided to go with Vienna Ensemble Pro 5 instead of Bidule, even though I've used Bidule hassle-free for a few years now. I think VEP5 is a bit more robust and offers some other cool features so I'm rolling up my sleeves to get that going. Why, you may ask, would I not just load all my VIs into DP8 and not run a shell program like VEP or Bidule to host my VI orchestra? Well, I love DP, but when it crashes (and you know from time to time it will) I love just rebooting DP and having the shell program just sit there holding my VI orchestra so I can get back to work in less than a minute as opposed to 2-3 minutes of reloading a giant orchestra VI template. Just my 2 cents! :)
That’s an interesting reason to keep VE Pro. I have never thought of that.
I have also found that DP crashes when taxed, (DP 7 and all version before).
And such is true with any program except Reason and VE Pro. Those Euro programmers are really amazing at rock solid programming.
So it might very well be smart to let the VIs reside in VE. It will take some angry, mean ass testing before hand to see what DP can handle, what makes it crash etc. Then and only then will it be clear whether or not to use VE Pro or stay in DP 8. Obviously, staying in DP 8 alone would be nice if it is just as stable.

I am using VE Pro 5 on my other two computers, but have been using Bidule on my Main DAW Mac Pro. I have a huge orchestral template! Mostly use Bidule for all my percussion on my Main computer. I agree, I have all my strings on one computer. Winds, and brass on another, and DP and percussion on my Main Mac Pro. (I also load Spectrasonic stuff as well as other Kontakt libraries on my main DAW.

I will try your link! Thanks!

Still trying to get Bidule to function in DP8. I downloaded the latest Reason Demo. But, silly me just found out that Bidule actually includes a 64 bit version of rewire in the Rewire folder found in the Bidule folder!! Go figure!

Anyway put the Rewire.bundle right where it belongs so now I am running 64 bit rewire, 64 bit Bidule, and 64 bit DP. DP8 still will not recognize my aux inputs from Bidule.

Anyone else on the bleeding ede of this? :banghead:

well, if we can run out 32 bit vi's in bidule while still being able to run dp in 64 bit while sending MIDI to bidule and getting audio back from bidule, then bidule could be our 32 bit bridge to / from dp.

Nope! Does not work on my rig. Maybe someone else?

As Rik points out earlier this thread, he's using ReWire to get Bidule to DP. It looks like Propellorheads needs to create a 64bit version of ReWire (its always one-more-thing!) before a 32bit Bidule, or anything else presumably, can show up in a 64bit DP8 via ReWire.

Yeah, but Propellorheads website says they have a 64 bit Rewire, but I just can't seem to find the actual download of just the Rewire app!! :shake:

Wait... so this entire time we've been saying, "oh yeah, we can just use Bidule as a bridge," and then it turns out we can't? Brilliant.

I'm NOT dropping $400 on VE Pro.

you can get VE Pro 5 at Sweetwater for $240. I have Bidule and I just got VEP and I really love VEP. Really solid piece of software, I think. You can also use it both 32 and 64 bit I believe, having 2 instances - one in 32 bit and one in 64 bit.
