I don't remember the exact words, but it's something like: Open Editors based on Selection.
I think this is what you are referring to: "Hide other tracks when opening to selection" in MIDI editing prefs. This unfortunately only affects the hiding of other tracks in edit windows when opening a selection. It has no effect on the mixer.

Thanks Shoosh.
Ok, I'm getting mixed results trying out some of these options, and I suspect that the answer might be to have a detached mixer window. But I'm danged if I can remember how to detach it. I looked for 'detach' in the manual... nothing. I can't think of another word for 'detach', so can anyone help a poor old kangaroo wrangler to get a free-floating mixer window so that I can simply toggle between the two? Interestingly, I wondered if I selected mix mode and gave it a name, would DP7 then remember my channel setup? Not today, sunshine. My approach: Two Monitors. Mixer in its own window, always open.

I recall just grabbing it and dragging it out of Consolidated. But it's been awhile...

To detach a window from the CW, double click in the space, top-right of that window, beside the tabs.

look for "pop out" instead of "detach" in the commands window. I think the default is Ctrl-1.

Woo-Hoo! Thanks for your help guys. At last the dreaded MOTU Mixer-Beast has been slain!!

I don't have the luxury of dual monitors, but at last I have the next best thing running on my iMac. I set up a new project with a separate floating mixer window, and saved it as a New template. Now it should all run like clockwork, and hopefully I'll never have to suffer that danged frustration again. I found it interesting that I wasn't Robinson Crusoe with that mixer issue. I hope a lot of Unicornies picked up some valuable info from this thread.

Thanks again, and get out there and kick some ass! :D

>The only way to avoid it is to keep the mixer open as a stand-alone window outside of the Consolidated Window, and never close it. <

I've been doing it that way so long that I forgot there was any other. It is one of the reasons that I run two monitors - I always want to glance at the mixer and look at levels.

amplidood wrote:You can duplicate the issue this way-

1 Set up some tracks on the Mixing Board
2 Close the Mixing Board
3 Make a selection of different tracks (or one) from the Overview or Seq Editor
4 Activate the Mixer however you do it

It should now reflect the tracks you had selected from the edit windows and not the original set.
Just tried it. Nope, it doesn't do it on my system. It's got to be some setting (or configuration) somewhere. Couldn't find the preference FM refers to.

Funny - This very thing just happened to me yesterday - Now this wasn't the first time and I do work in the consolidated window so I always have a side bar open with "Track Selector, Audio Monitor, Soundbites and Markers" showing. I've gotten use to just click and drag along my Track Selector to open them back into view in the mixer window in a couple of seconds. Or even single clicking a folder holding the tracks in the Track Selector and all the tracks in that folder will appear instantly. Not really a pain once your used to working around it I suppose - However, It wouldn't disappoint me to see this go away in DP8.

Hope this helps,

Okay, time for a clarification on this issue. Apparently it is a Tracks Overview issue only. It doesn't seem to operate this way from the Sequence Editor. There's quite a split down the middle when it comes to people working centrally from either one. I personally work from the TO and go into the SE to get up close and personal on selected tracks. Just bogs things down to much graphically for my system.
