This sometimes happens to me and I discovered that if someone posts before you do and the notice that that has happens appears, I will think I am dismissing it when in fact I am deleting my post. I had to pay close attention to what i was doing - kind of like the view filter in DP... cmd-f death!

What was your post? I don't recall deleting anything so I'm not sure what's being insinuated? How strange.

No, not insinuating anything my friend. I posted and afterwards it redirected me to the posted post, so I saw that it was up there. There was nothing in the post that would have warranted deletion, so I don't think anyone did it. I just said I thought DP on Windows was a good thing.. although I can't quite remember why.

Hmm? you just probably explained why this same thing has happened to me. I "post" and it disappears..... must this board style?

Weird! I assure you it wasn't me. It's rare that I delete a post. I did so yesterday or the day before (don't remember for sure when it was) when someone triple-posted. I deleted the two that had no responses. I used to delete spam, but James prefers to do that. He keeps track of their domains, and all that. Outside of that, I just don't delete posts. I've never experienced a disappearing post, though.

The worst part about DP on Windows is that it is going to be harder to tell who is a Mac user and who is coming from the dark side. Right now, we know that everyone in this forum is a Mac user and a friend...

I'm worried that I am going to start assuming that all newbies are PC users and experience feelings of bias and superiority towards them.

No. I'm totally kidding... mostly... :brucelee:
Shooshie wrote:What format will DP's PC plugins be in? Did they say? Or is that why you all are talking about VST? I need to listen to that video and see what Magic Dave said.
My assumption is that all 15 of the new DP plugins are all MAS plugins, and that MAS will run on both the Mac and PC. I am only guessing, but does that sound probable? MAS should work on the PC, right? That would make all MOTU plugins completely interchangeable on both platforms.

And back to what I was saying a couple of years ago, I think MOTU should make some of their amazing VIs available for a discounted bundle price when you purchase DP. I would to start using those vintage keyboards and Mach5 if I had them, but I need some incentives to to become a user of those products since I have so many others that are similar. Make a special upgrade offer, and I might jump on board, as might many others.

The more platform interchangeable plugins available, the better, it would seem to me.
Michael Canavan wrote:Anyway, it's still safest to print everything to audio, so again, I would love it if MOTU thought about this with DP8 and included a "print all tracks to separate audio files" feature instead of having to mess around with freeze and cluttering up your project etc. :)
I'm surprised that we can't do that already. I've never needed to do it so I didn't even realize it wasn't possible.

Well freezing pretty much covers it, I don't remember if freezing covers FX tracks or not, but basically you freeze, then drag the frozen tracks to another folder, unfreeze and you've got tracks end to end for another DAW. You might want to bulk rename them so they don;t say freeze in the name. Logic does this well, Live pulls a boner and names the song file at the beginning of the file name, though there are Automator scripts for bulk cutting out the first x letters in a files name.

It's stil a couple more steps than other DAWs though, and because DP files without VST will not be cross platform, it's a good idea if they implement something smooth. :)

Brad's comments are pertinent to the move, IMHO.

I thought the same things, especially the fact that MOTU has been selling hardware to and writing drivers for Windoze machines for a long time. Makes sense in this light alone.

Thoughts on VST.

While Dave did say in the video that VST (and Rewire) will be supported on the Windows side, he did, in passing, say that DP is not quite finished. An intimation that VST is to be added on the Mac side?

Also, there is no mention of Rewire being 64bit. Hopefully this will be another perk in DP8.

I think it is a good business decision by MOTU (IMHO). I will also be able to sleep a little better at night knowing that if Apple decides not to support their pro computers, I can always go over to that "other" platform without learning a new DAW and leaving my beloved DP!

Plus, just think of all the "which is better, Mac or PC" postings we will now have to read. :deadhorse:

Best,

Rik

James confirmed in another post that projects containing audio and MOTU's bundled plugins would be cross compatible between the Windows and OSX version - so this pretty much confirms that the MAS plugs will work the same on the PC and Mac.

It doesn't mean that the PC plugins are MAS, just that the data in the DP project file can load the proper plugin and preset files.

As an aside, does AudioDesk run in Windows? is there any other host that can use MAS plugins?

I was wondering about Audiodesk, as well. It's currently mac only, just like DP. But for many people who buy one of the MOTU interfaces, and don't need MIDI, Audiodesk is a very useful program for basic tracking. I would be surprised if they don't also have a windows version of Audiodesk to bundle with their hardware.
