Only a few days away and it will be like Christmas morning again. Looking forward to seeing what the MOTU santa has in store for us!

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
Exactly. I don't think we'll see a DP8 and I think to raise such expectations will lead to disappointment. That's just my feeling. I think 64-bit would be worked into a 7.x release, IMHO.Killahurts wrote:And what if there IS a new version of DP, but it's DP7.5, not DP8?
Would that be slightly disappointing, in an odd sort of way?

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
I'll be at NAMM this Thursday. Since I have only one day to attend it
this year, I'll have the MOTU booth at the top of my list. That said,
for the first time in many years, I don't really care if there is a new
version of DP. 7.24 works great for me, honestly I can't think of anything
I'm missing in it. Seriously.
I have no plans to ever go to Lion on my current Macs. 64-bit? Not on my
wish list, cause 64-bit isn't going to make me a better songwriter or
producer. I suppose it's not hip to say I'm perfectly content with DP as
it is, but I am.
It will be good to get a chance to say hi to Magic Dave. That's the main
reason I'll be stopping by the booth.

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
Jeez I hope MOTU drop DP8 at NAMM not because I really need it etc, but because every other freaking DAW maker avoids it like a plague it seems?
OK OK I think MOTU are going in the right direction with DP7 so I'm stoked to see if it continues with 8, and improved beat detection, even a modern Live type approach or full Melodyne integration like Studio One would be cool, but my ultimate hope is they integrate more real time abilities in DP. I'm still not used to stopping play back to instantiate an instrument plug in or move tracks around without audio drop out.
Agreed on the tiny fonts, if that was the only major change I think I would upgrade.

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
I disagree. MOTU has already given us two substantial updates and numerous maintanance updates for free. Now they need to get some money in the door and 64bit alone is enough to warrant a version 8 name.James Steele wrote:I don't think we'll see a DP8 and I think to raise such expectations will lead to disappointment. Maybe they've hit problems in the 64bit transition and it won't be shown at NAMM, but I strongly believe the next one will, in fact, be DP8. But if it's released now or summer 2014, that's the question

But based on the comments from MOTU reps from last year where they said they tried to have it ready for show then and that "customers can expect it this year", I say the probability is pretty good that they'll have it for show this year.

Please post a report for us poor souls on the other side of the globe if you get a chance!David Polich wrote:I'll be at NAMM this Thursday. Since I have only one day to attend it this year, I'll have the MOTU booth at the top of my list.
I agree, DP7.24 is absolutely fantastic... but...That said, for the first time in many years, I don't really care if there is a new
version of DP. 7.24 works great for me, honestly I can't think of anything
I'm missing in it. Seriously.
When it comes to VIs I have performance issues. Things I feel should be there. And I live in the maybe vain and naive hope that a combination of 64bit and some VI optimization would solve that. These things are really killing my creativity and the only other solution would be to buy a new computer, something I just can't afford at the moment.
But I feel there's something in DPs way of handling VIs rather than my computer's lack of raw power that's the main culprit.
That's the main reason I'm so eager to see a new version.
If a new 64-bit version would make my VIs run smoother then it would actually make me a better songwriter. Cause this constant battle against technology is really not good for my creativity.I have no plans to ever go to Lion on my current Macs. 64-bit? Not on my
wish list, cause 64-bit isn't going to make me a better songwriter or
producer. I suppose it's not hip to say I'm perfectly content with DP as
it is, but I am.
Say hi from me/us too![/quote]It will be good to get a chance to say hi to Magic Dave. That's the main

I'll be at Namm on Thursday and Friday. Besides MotU I want to check out John Bowen's new synth.

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
I'm holdin' out for DP8 - I agree DP is currently very effective but I too hope they make some kick ass improvements.
I would love to see a better time compression/expansion algorithm - I hate Pro Stools but it does do an excellent job at this.
In the Sequence window I hope they do away with the 'Soundbites' and 'Volume' selections and make it one. Silly that you can't grab the wave file when in 'Volume' view.
I hope they change the stupid Lasso/Finger multi-tool when manually drawing stuff in - drives me to drink...more!

Re: NAMM - DP8? Who's Going?
I vote for better snap shot automation implementation.
And better time stretch such as the time stretch contained in Mach 5 v 2..
I am sleepy or I’d probably list 25 more things to this list.
Oh yeah, the lower latency setting for the record enabled track idea would be great!
Maybe No one can do such a cool thing.
Imagine? Running at 1024 and being able to record an electric guitar through a virtual amp or use effects on the vocal in real time while recording?
I too will be there at NAMM, but I keep a loooow profile so no one will know...lol

I am a member of NAMM but passed on going this year. The thought of renting a scooter to go through those crowded ailes this year is not for me.
