Re: Does DP7 include MW Collection...
In my opinion, dp6 is to dp7 what leopard is to snow leopard
Despite a few new features, dp7 is basically a more stable version of dp6

And I have to say, sad as this will sound, the skins look greatCan't wait to use them. My studio is dark so I like to keep the screen colors dark. Sad that something not related to the sound AT ALL makes me so happy
DP 6 is ancient history now. One of the biggest changes has been the addition of Themes, a major overhaul to the GUI that was actually the result of the work of one of our brethren here, Amplidude, of AmpGUIMods.Net. His fantastic GUI mods for DP caused a wave of interest from old users to new ones to prospective switchers. It was so pronounced that MOTU could not ignore it, and over a period of time they gradually made it easier to use his mods, until finally they created an actual preference in which you can just select any mod, or "theme," and apply it instantly without having to dicker with the stuff inside the DP package. That has been huge for a lot of us who never liked the stark whiteness of the DP6 GUI, and I don't find that in any way sad. To think that the way our tools look have no effect on our use of them denies the entire principle through which the Macintosh GUI has dominated computers since 1984. (Windows, of course, is the Mac GUI, unabashedly stolen shortly after the Mac hit the market) Some people claim not to care about how things look, but I'm not one of them. The visual aspect of my work is extremely important to me. Anyway, the Themes Preference is now a permanent part of DP.
There have been many tweaks under the hood since DP6. In fact, DP7 was in my opinion the absolute best paid upgrade in DP's history. It functioned without a flaw on my system. Some had trouble with stuck notes, but an incremental update fixed that for most people. Stability is better, workflow is better, and just about everything seems better, whether or not there is actually any difference.
Now, of course, DP is running on Lion OS, which versions prior to 7.24 did not, AFAIK. My experience in Lion is limited at this point, but growing, and so far it has been wonderful, though I have not found "Desktops" to replace "Spaces" 100%. The compatibility is compelling, but not complete. I use Spaces in Snow Leopard to hold various full-screen windows in DP, as if I had 6 monitors open at once. So far I can do all that in Lion except for navigation directly to each space with a unique key-command. That may exist in Lion, but I haven't found it. It doesn't matter too much. There are other ways of getting to the Spaces, er… Desktops (as they are called in Lion).
Another large change in DP 7.x was the ability to save all your inserts for a Mixing Board track in a single preset. When you get a string of plugins tweaked exactly as you like them, one save will store them all for recall on other tracks, if desired. That's a bigger deal than it sounds like.
There are other changes, but I can't remember them. In my opinion, if you are using DP6, you should jump to 7.24 as rapidly as possible. Your mileage may vary.

I've not moved to Lion yet, I am very happy with Snow Leopard and just the effort for me to change my OS is just not something I want to invest time in. As they say, if it isn't broke, don't touch it!
That's nice about the channel strips. That is something I used often when I was using Logic, as it has had that capability for awhile. Many times it was for vocal chains that I setup for specific voices I was working with.
I have to laugh, why is it that stuck notes is one of the things that has plagued different versions of DP since the beginning? I think I experienced it in DP4 but then never had it happen again for me. So strange how that is.
I'm also glad to know that DP7 is very stable. That is always a good thing. DP is the only DAW I've ever used live on a show. It has NEVER failed me. Can't say that with all software I've used. One show I was using Ableton to drive DMX lighting and I had to restart it every hour.

Don't worry, DP 7.24 runs great in Snow Leopard. You do not need to upgrade to Lion to use it. It's not your OS that you need to upgrade; it's DP. But if you're happy as a clam where you are, who's to say you should do otherwise?
I still run Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro. It's the Macbook Pro where I'm starting to learn Lion. I just didn't want to touch it on my main machine. That said, I'm finding the switch to Lion (on the Macbook Pro) to be trouble-free… so far.

Re: Does DP7 include MW Collection...
That's good to know that it has been trouble free. Well, DP6 I've always had problems with on my Mac Pro and even a reinstall didn't fix it (meaning, reinstalled EVERYTHING on a blank formated drive). For some reason, the loop points I could not set with the hot keys no matter what I tried, and I use this a lot. Hoping DP7 will fix this.
I have my Mac Pro and my Mac Book Pro almost identical in terms of software now. I go portable because I work with a group of musicians at another studio and they don't have all my soft synths. Of course, my wall of synths is only attached to my Mac Pro so I sample down what I need.

Re: Does DP7 include MW Collection...
Are these hot keys that are standard DP commands? Or did you create them yourself in the commands window? I use some commands for that which I created in the Commands Window, and they always work. But what I'm talking about is just a command for setting the "memory start" and another for "memory end" which I invoke when the counter is where I want the loop point to be.grimepoch wrote:That's good to know that it has been trouble free. Default keybindings. They would NOT set the start/stop on the loop points. All I can think is some combination of drivers is causing a conflict on that machine. VERY strange. Works fine on my MacBook Pro.
Ahhhh, the joy of computers!

Re: Does DP7 include MW Collection...
You probably already did this, but I'll say it anyway. Did you check the Keyboard-Shortcuts tab in the System Preferences under the Keyboard section? There could be a conflict among those shortcuts.
